Another sheath question

Hi everybody,

First post here and it's another sheath question. I've had a Camillus BK2 for years that I stripped and convexed when I first got it. It's been a joy to use and will be serving my grandson some day. A couple of days ago I picked up a 2nd generation Kabar version and I like it already. I don't mind the kydex at all, but as everyone already knows, the loop sucks.
I'm thinking of replaciing the cordura with a shorter stiff leather one giving it a higher ride and eliminating the "upside down" thing when the strap is unsnapped. Has anyone done this, and how has it worked out for you.

Thanks,
Randy

I think the new sheath has the attachement to far down on the sheath and to give it a stiff support the leather must be very thick, why not just remove the cordura loop, but keep the plastic thing that attaches to the sheath, use the holes that the cordura was attached to and put a tek lok....worked out for me, it ride lower, very stiff ( even a one hand draw is posible)

A Tek Lok isn't going to make the knife ride lower in a blade down carry, it will ride higher. The Tek Lok isn't as long as the nylon webbing strap that they come with. I say go with leather, get a good thickness, and go to town. Maybe wax the heck out of it until it is stiff as you need. Talk to 'ole Moose about that though, I don't mess with the stuff, he however seems to know his way around it.

That's what I'm thinking too. Maybe some 10 or 12 ounce folded over and bolted at the three rivet holes and waxed. Maybe Moose will weigh in on this.

Thanks for the replies, there is a wealth of info in this place.

Here is one I did with condura/nylon mix, I made it as thick as my sewing machine would let me.
It actaully hard to bend now and is not flimsy at all.

Also welcome to the forum.....

Oh, that cheap thin beltloop on the sheath? First thing to go on mine. There are a few things you can do, first, get a piece of kydex, thin, maybe .06, cut it half an inch smaller than the loop is (width) and 2" shorter than the length, put it inside the loop and stitch that thing up on 4 sides. Buddy of mine did that, looks ok, and works. Second, take it off and get you some kydex, make a solid kydex belt loop and bolt it on with some hardwar and spacers. You can make a loop out of leather, but honestly, that upsid down thing still happens. Tried it. Now if you stitch it up and make it more rigid, it works, but the BK2 still leans out, not upside down, but out.

I like mine to ride higher, see,

So, teklok on the adapter plate works for me, not really, I make sheaths, but you get the picture.

The other, and probably best option, is the ESEE 5/6 molle back. It will work with some modding and will do exactly what you want it too.

Good luck, good hunting, and Welcome to the Becker Forum, and Bladeforums. Glad you're here.

Moose its time to upgrade that tattoo, half sleeve that sucker, or even better full sleeve...

That covers my should and most of my back. No sleeves, I work with very high profile clients and I have to be able to cover my work up with a short sleeve shirt, when I'm installing systems. Even in today's world, some millionaire/billionaire corporate owners don't like tats.

Sux for them.

Thanks Moose, (and everybody) for the replies. The lean out deal is what I'm trying to get away from. Stiffening up the loop sounds like it might work, but man, I like that leather you've got on there. I don't suppose you'd make another one of those would you?
