I had ordered a sage with black/tan G-10 handles ASH1. When it came, my one concern was realized: it was a bit heavy for my intended use. I don't collect knives, but need a good user.
Currently, my knife is a Mission MPT, and it has been a good knife. However, cutting through the side of a building and prying up boards had bent it a bit in Iraq. I was able to bend it back, and the knife did well with whatever abuse I put it through, but I wanted a heavy use blade, about 6" blade, that was no more than 16 oz as my all purpose knife.
Hence, I've been picking up a few Busse's. The SFNO was not quite right for me, the SJTAC hand was a little too skinny for my hands, and a Fusion Steel Heart too large (though it broke my heart to part with it, but I am married, we were at the point in our life when we were having babies, but the Fusion Steel Heart would be a great camp knife). I was really excited about the ASH1, but like I said, a little heavy for my all-purpose gear knife.
Now, I love the handle on the ASH1 with magnum G-10. I sent Amy an email, asking about any way to get an ASH1 made from the LE stock, so it was .225 thick. No response. Then, about the time I was going to send the follow-up email, I saw the Skinny ASH thread. That sounded perfect.
Ordered two and they arrrived today (Skunk sure is fast when he ain't drunk). Perfect indeed. I wish the handle was a tad thicker, but it is still very good, and the weight is good. I've found the knife. The only problem is that I definitely prefer G-10 over micarta, and I prefer the sage blade finish. So, what I might do is have the slabs swapped between the two knives.
In any case, here is the pic. The CGASH1 is up top, with the two Skinny's below. Once I figure out what I'm doing about the handle, keeping it on the black blade or getting it swapped to the sage, I'll put the other on the exchange, and I'll not be trying to gouge anyone - I saw the other thread about buying up limited runs and then selling them at markup shortly after the artificial supply and demand issue, and agree.
