Oh no, not another one!

Drew the design last night, roughed it out today.

Nesmuk meets the 21st century. Apologies to the traditionalists.
OAL 8"
1095
1/8" thick
1 1/2" wide blade (at widest point)

A work in progress

I gotta say, I never was a fan of Nesmuk's, except as a piece of Americana.
But thinking about what the guys in WSS like, I wanted to see if they are traditionalists, only drawn by a true Nesmuk, or, if they like the blade style on a modern chassis.

The finger grooves are mad-comfortable.

A recurve is next right :)

You are really doing great work, especially considering this is what, your third knife.

Man, I hear recurves are a pain to grind. I may skip them.

Thanks, I think this is number 4.
And they are all very rough pieces.

As soon as the weather gets better, knife making will go on back burner.

wow, i really like the new one! the others were great, but that 'bolo' type blade looks fantastic!

Great job Skunk. I will have to say my favorite is the one in the first pic, It looks to be a real tough design:thumbup: .

Very very nice Skunk. To hell with traditionalists and purists. Sweet looking knife. Made from the 1/8" 01??? The thin blade makes it traditional enough. How thick is the edge?? Thats the hardest thing to learn IMO. Grinding the edge real thin without ruining the HT.

Btw, I've failed to ship your wool yet. Damn funeral and all. e-mail me your addy again if you don't mind.

Fiddleback, no worries. Our sympathies on the funeral.
I'll email.

My edges are pretty thick, working my way toward thinner.
It's 1/8" 1095. Using the 1/8" inch material has made grinding a bit more manageable, that 1/4" thick stuff seems to grind forever! (lots of material to remove).

For an 8" knife OAL, 1/8" isn't that bad. If it were a 10" knife, I'd want it to be 3/16". (Which is my next order, some 3/16" 1095).

Heat treat is still my biggest issue, I don't have a consistant way to get it hot all over, so I am guessing that different parts of the blade may have different hardness.
I've been grinding very carefully, and cooling very often when doing the final grind. A small bucket of water mixed with snow helps. :)

I slammed the Bully knife through a 55 gallon steel drum and it did blunt the tip a little, didn't snap off, but it did need a little TLC to bring it back.

The mini-forge with the wool should take care of the heating issue.

Glad to see you are back on-line, you were missed for a few days.
