I've been dealing with some issues lately. I've got some complications due to recently diagnosed diabetes. Among these is a foot ulcer. It's been being treated for the last two months or so, and started looking real good. I found a scratchy area while clening the wound and told the doctor about it today. She took x-rays to make sure it was just a piece of cartelidge and not exposed bone.

I never really found out what it was.
Turns out that although the wound is healing nicely, the bone underneath is infected. They don't have specifics yet, I have a couple more scans to be done.

Bottom line is, next week I go in to have part of my left foot amputated. How much is what is up in the air.

I'm not handling this well.

Very sorry to hear about this.

Cpl Punishment, Smoke and Song for you that everything turns out in a Good and Gentle way for you.

I hate Diabetes as much as I do cancer because of Diabetes' potential for being such a life threatening disease! :(
As strange as it may sound it's been found that many indigenous people like the American Indian and the Native Hawaiians' can put their Diabetes' into remission by eating their native foods although doing so doesn't help any of the damage already done.:( Even non-native people can often improve their health by a change of diet as one of my son-in-laws found out a few months ago. Simply by stopping the foods he found out his body was intolerant of he has lost a great deal of weight, improved his cholesterol significantly, and is no longer sick after every meal!

Speaking from experience even though I haven't had any amputations I can sort of understand your not handling the upcoming surgery well because of my own loss of physical ability and dealing with severe chronic pain for many years.
Just remember that the loss or partial loss of a body part doesn't mean that life doesn't go on, it just goes on in a different manner.
You are stronger than you think and you can and will be alright as time goes by even though it may not seem like it right now.
My email is always open if you want to talk about anything in private.

....

My prayers...such as they are...are with you.

"Not handling it well" would be an understatement for any of us.

Do as well as you can, please.

Thanks, guys. This is really pulling my strings.

I go from "Aww, it's no big deal." to "Why don't I just pull the trigger now?" several times a day. Heck, several times an hour.

Damn bro. That sucks. My SIL really had a lot of trouble ajusting to Diabetes. You have my prayers.

Smoke and Prayers from DownUnder.

Diabetes is not limited to humans. My Border Collie dog is a diabetic requiring twice daily insulin injections. She celebrated her 13th birthday last Monday.

I know you will keep fighting and we all experience moments of doubt and sometimes despair.Diabetes can not be 'cured' but it can be kept under control and side effects limited or avoided for many, many years. Who knows what amazing medical advances are just around the corner?

I'm not worried about the diabetes. I know I have it now, and it's under control. Been to the 3 week training program and everything.

What screwed me is the fact that most people don't show any symptoms of diabetes until they've been diabetic for years. There's no telling how long this stuff was brewing, and now I'm paying the price.

Anyway, thanks everyone. Tomorrow is the day. I won't have time after work to log on again in the morning. Wish me luck.

Wishing you luck, here in Virginia. Hang in there ...
