While inspecting (oh, okay...playing with) my SpyderHawk, it dawned on me that the opening hole seemed somewhat larger than on my other Spydies. I then held it next to a Military, and lo & behold...the holes are the same! THAT's a major bonus in snow-country. Now I can get my 'Hawk deployed while wearing thick gloves.
Way to go, Sal!

I was wondering about that, but did not have any other full sized Spydies with me to compare it to.

I REALLY like my Spyderhawks! I have been playing with one of them at my desk in the server room all day long. I destroyed a few shipping boxes earlier for grins and this thing is just plain scary.
:D

Sal, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a PE version.

I like it this way. After getting used to the Merlin and Rescue, this was no problem.

Gah... quit taunting me!!! I don't have money right now for the Hawk!
:grumpy: ;) :D

I saw one for 65 bucks this past week at a B & M shop where I also get 10% off (big spender discount ;) ) At any rate, my wallet was just about open...

Come on Hawkbill, talk to me! Do I need a Spyderhawk? :) I have a Merlin and a SS Harpy . . . Must I? :D

Ohhhhh no, Greymoor....You may be completely happy with your current selection

But.....;) if you've ever reached for the Merlin and thought "Ya know, if this knife was just a tad bigger, it'd be much better..."
then you will see it the way I do.

Best wishes from DeWitt!

I like the feel of the Spyderhawk and at under 60 bucks its at a reasonable price but I just cant make myself like FRN handles. You all think the Hawk might come out later in a different handle material? I would love to see it in G-10 or micarta. Might just end up buying one with FRN anyway it does feel good in the hand the way it is shaped. My wife looked at me like i was a nut when I was holding it the day I brought one home to shoot pics of it she was like what the heck is that for, this is when I give her my best Texas Chainsaw Massacre look and say "oh nothing honey, you just go onto bed". She generally replies "yea I'm, scared mess with me and that thing will have ball blood on it when you wake up in the morning." so I kiss her and run off to play with knives in another room where she wont get any ideas. Scarry thing is being a nurse I am afraid she knows just too well how to remove parts with a sharp instrument and I'm betting that Spyderhawk would make the job a little "too" easy. :)

Hehehe,

Yes . . . I will most likely have to get one. <<sigh>> My list of knives to buy this year keep getting bigger and my wallet is looking anemic.

Yeah, watch out for them spouse/nurses! Mine is, as well.
:D
There was a thread devoted to folks willing to "Put up or shut up" approx $100 pre-paid sent to Sal for a G-10 SpyderHawk, but sadly, the list of committments was far short of my hopes. I think there was mention of a 500 unit sprint if enough interest could be generated. There were approx 15 knives spoken-for on the thread. No idea if the idea will come to be, but if the 'Hawk establishes itself in the market well-enough, maybe a variant run will find it's way out of Golden at some point down the road (?).

Thanx Hawkbill.

I prefer the larger (14mm) hole where the width of the blade permits it, especially for a work intended models. The new Rescue models (Rescue 93mm, Rescue 79mm, WTC/D'allara Rescue, Assist I and Assist II Rescues) all use the larger hole. It increases the "hump" size in some designs (to meet blade strength standards), which many say is "ugly", but hey! tractors don't have to look like Ferraris.
