Another stainless steel bottle - SIGG Steelworks

A little more than a month ago, I acquired a SIGG Steelworks stainless steel bottle. The SIGG Steelworks bottle looks just like the SIGG aluminum bottles, but the Steelworks bottles are 18/8 stainless steel, and come with a flat cap that has a steel bail/loop. It has a 1 liter capacity.

I have been using the bottle since I got it to ferry cool/cold tea to work. The 1 liter capacity seems to work well for me. My 27 oz Klean Kanteen often left me a little short on tea, whereas my 40 oz Klean Kanteen more often yielded a surplus.

The bottle has the standard SIGG 1" opening. I can get the ice cubes our freezer makes into the bottle, but the opening will not be friendly to most standard size/shape ice cubes. I find the smaller opening easier to drink out of than the larger opening on the Klean Kanteen and Guyot bottles.

I haven't had a chance to place it in a campfire to boil water, but I imagine it will work as well as the Klean Kanteen or Guyot bottles. I did buy a black bottle, which does readily absorb sunlight for warming water. I have used the bottle to make a little 'sun tea' this past weekend.

I like this bottle. It was a litte more expensive than the 40 oz Klean Kanteen, but was about in the same ballpark as the Guyot bottle. It also has a sort of 'coolness' factor to it, too, I think. I have always been attracted to SIGG bottles, but was never too keen on the aluminum prospect, despite all the safety disclaimers.

Finally, it fits comfortably in the Maxpedition 10x4 bottle holder.

Thanks for looking.

I have been eyeing the kleens or a guyot, this might trump them with the built in bail.

Very nice. Where did you get that from?

I got the bottle from Altrec.com: http://www.altrec.com/steelworks-by-sigg/steelworks-water-bottle-1l-33-oz.

Rockywolf, my Klean Kanteens all have loop top caps, which can be used for attachment/picking up like the bail on the SIGG. However, the loop top caps do not fold like the SIGG bail. Not much of a big deal, but if you're going to consider a Maxpedition 10x4 Bottle Holder down the road for whatever bottle you get, know that the 40 oz Klean Kanteen with the loop top cap is a very tight fit, height-wise.

Thank you for the link hikeeba. I really like the look of that bottle, I'm going to check them out.

Do these have any kind of inner liner?

Also it seems like it's thinner than say a Guyot or Nalgene if you have a Olicamp or GSI cups is there alot of wiggle room if you set it inside of one?

Double edit:

Here is the Sigg site with all the different Steelworks bottles:

cssims, the bottle does not have any sort of liner or coating on the inside. In that respect it is similar to the Klean Kanteen and Guyot/Nalgene bottle.

And yes, it is a narrower bottle, so the Olicamp and GSI cups will be a sloppier fit. You could take up the void with a HeatSheets blanket or space blanket I suppose, or maybe with a bandana or something if you wanted to pair the SIGG bottle up with the cup. I have a Snowpeak titanium mug that fits a little better on the Steelworks bottle than the Olicamp and GSI cups, but at the moment I can't remember which one it is. I'll reassess the situation this evening and post pics.

Thanks...I just figured someone else would ask and I still haven't decided on how to set up my Max. holders. I do like the color choices for the Sigg bottles.

Oops. I was mistaken. At this time, I do not have a cup/pot that fits decently on the SIGG bottle. But the Snow Peak Trek 700 pot fits reasonably OK on the 40 oz KK:

The KK/Trek 700 combo fits in the Max 10x4 bottle holder, but the Trek 700 is VERY snug, and requires some effort to extricate. But it does fit.

So... The search is on for a cup to mate up with the SIGG bottle...
