So while prowling around in the toy box a while ago, looking for my NRA 525 gents. I peeked at the burgundy eel 529 laying there. Opened it up to remember its vintage and via these cheaters could just tell it had an up arrow (1988).

But it looked blurred a little being pretty small. So to decide if it is my blindness or something else, I drug it up here for a scan with a loupe.

Sure nuff, that up arrow has a dot stamped right in the middle of it.

Help me out on this one .....

Will try and get some pics of it here in a bit.

And as another tidbit,,,the box has the label for the eel.... but has 703 Colt stamped on the bottom. Kinda interesting.

yeah,,,its an upward pointing V instead of an arrow...... these were arrows before there was a chickentrax..:)

Ok,,,times up....someone cough up some info on this dot that is punched in the year stamp.

Was just down in the 532 thread and it sure looks like that 2000 stamp has the same dot punched in the center of the year stamp...

So it isn't just mine...:confused::confused:

Only there to drive Buck collectors crazy:p I only recall Larry O. commenting in a thread, news letter or email about the significance of the dots within a symbol....but I can't remember the important stuff:o

yeah,,,so much research...I'll wait on one of the pros...:rolleyes::D

I can just visualize all of you out there going through your toys looking for dots.

Ya' know, I seem to recall the 529 Sharkskin I give to my Lady-Friend for her birthday may have that dot in addition to the symbol.....I'll have to ask her to show me the knife again. I know I have seen one, or that one, around here some where. :)

I thought the dot was used to signify a change in material or design, during mid year production etc...??? Or something??:o

I had a complete set of those at one time and I'm pretty sure it's a 1989 year mark.My first year club knife"Sawby"has the same mark.Hope this helps.

2 of our ealier posters hit on the answer... It was to "signify a change or design" and was only put there to "drive Buck collectors crazy".
What the specific change was I dont know. I am hoping that someday it will be made known.
Pre 1986, you can find knives with no date code but a dot just after the model number. I have seen this on 500, 400, and 700 series knives. Who knows why. I did find old blue prints that mentioned those dots but unfortunately, it gave no mention as to what they were for. As far as I can tell, they were used from the early 1980's up to 1985.
