Another strop thread: but help needed

Well as I posted earlier, I have recently made the decision to keep and actually use my Battle Rat. Now the issue of sharpening has my attention. I read a lot of the older posts on this and at this point decided that the strop method is probably what I need to do to keep a good edge.

So, I have been looking around for a strop. I am probably not original on this idea, so I wanted to check with the experienced guys here.

I thought it may be a good idea to attach a strap of leather to the underside of my Battle Rat sheath? Will this provide the right amount of "give"? Seems like a logical place to me. Any sheathmakers make a sheath that also can serve as a strop (if not, maybe time for someone to figure it out?) I will not carry on my belt, but instead carry in/on my backpack, Would this work? Has it been tried/perfected? Any advice would be appreciated.

BTW: is a canvas strop appropriate (have seen them for razors) to use on the Battle Rat? How about my Rat Hunter (which I have never even tried to sharpen- but decided to start using as well)-

Any added technique advise would be great. If I made my own strop from leather, do I need a compound as well- if so what type?

Do you know about the "red diamond conditioned leather" from Handamerican.com? Is this appropriate for the Rat? Any advantages?

For field stropping, I've always heard that a leather belt works fairly decent. Since I am usually wearing one, I should probably learn that skill at some point. ;)

I just use the Red Conditioned. It works great with the Silicon Carbide or Black Diamond compounds.
