I just found the Kris Cutlery website from reading posts on this forum. Their prices are very reasonable. What about the quality of the products? I mean $95 for a Baselard seems like a real steal. Anyone got any opinions based on facts?

Opinion based on facts? Thats one of them thur oxy-thingymabobs.
KC have a solid reputation for producing solid if asthetically bland and sometimes non traditioanl weaponery for a very reasonable price. They are well regarded and I have read few complaints about them. I read a Post ages ago about a KC baselard that was used in a boar hunt for chopping or gutting a boar and it was only slightly nicked. The poster said the nicking was his fault as opposed to a flaw with the blade IIRC.

So in short yea, They are a good deal.

My KC Bonifacio Bolo (discontinued so it is no longer on their site) chops better than any machete or survival knife I've put it up against.

You might wish to try http://swordforum.com/ as well as here for information regarding Kris Cutlery or any other swords. There is a great reservoir of experience there. BTW, they seem to like the Kris products.

There's a reservoir of something there but it sure aint experience... ;)

I've handled a KC katana, and while it was far from historical, it was very sturdy, all tight and quite sharp. for the price you really cant go wrong, I was considering one of their euro's a little while back.

There is great experience and knowledge in Sword Forum, just as there is in Blade Forums. But both also have a large number of blowhards who know next to nothing and like to hear themselves sound off. You do need to learn to be a bit picky.

The experience and knowledge has left SFI and is now scattered through the other forums, bladeforums, myarmoury, axeforum, netword, vikingsword and a few others. A year or 2 ago SFI was a haven for good info but times change. As much as it guts me to say it Myarmoury is the best forum for people who are serious about learning about quality weaponery.

well i dunno about him but the fact that they banned Keith Larmen, that all the most knowledgeable have left SFI for MyArmoury or left forums ALTOGETHER, and that admin lately have been pushing away the MOST knowledgeable members seems to be a fair way to say that SFI isnt what it was and never will be again. Keith on SFI I considered the most knowledgeable about the technical side of katana, he now has posting rights removed (as do I, not that it was a loss).

When I joined SFI it was filled to the brim with the most knowledgeable people in the sword world, now its just for a noobs last resort to pimp their PPK. ;)

Opinion is usually based upon the person, fact is stating how things are...fact is the best of SFI are now gone :).
