Folks who hangout on the porch are good folk. I read through the posts in the "Thankful" giveaway thread. And it made me think about what I might be thankful for and honestly, I just didn't feel it. I was thankful but it was driven by the logic side of my head.

I was thinking about my house being flooded..... the wife and I dealt with some issues over the last few years (injuries, cancer) and we were really looking forward to a "good" year. Then 30 inches of rain in threes days swoll the waterways and the creek came up.

Now, people had it worse than I. It could have been worse as many people say. I won't go into the details, but I just wasn't feeling thankful. The logic side of my head kept imploring my heart to think..... so, I did.

I thought about how burried I felt. How much there was to do in such little time to save what was left of our home.... but we did. We got a bunch of help. So many folks came, we had to tell people to stay home. When I thought about how overwhelming it was and things started happening. The weight just came off..... it's when I remembered that I felt thankful..... so, I had something to write about in Wurrwulf's giveaway.

Seriously, entering that giveaway really improved my mood and heart. So, I was happy.

So, things are really great.... and Kris (MT Damascus) sends me a PM asking if he can send me something. I can't say no. That would be rude. But I know Kris (though I've never met him) and this forum. We're knife knuts and knives are given away..... but this is Kris. Kris knows nice knives.... The knives he posts are always just great. Extremely nice stag or wood. Nice knives in impeccable condition. I'm not even sure he is aware they put delrin on a knife. He might have heard of jigged bone. Kris is a connoisseur. I'm a little worried because I naturally just don't like being fussed about.... and Kris is going to be too nice to me.

I hate stag handles on a pocket knife. I love the look, but just never seem to get a knife with decently matched handles or one that isn't ridiculously swollen in the center like a snake that just swallowed a gopher. I've tried many, but have decided that I should stick with jigged bone to keep my sanity.

So, what does Kris send? It ain't delrin, it'll be nicer than I deserve.... how about a Henckels Copperhead in Stag?

Kris left a note about this being one of his favorite knives. I believe him. The stag on this really is everything I think stag should be, but I just don't encounter. Even sides, slabs that fit the contours of the knife, deep texture, great color..... a NICE knife with excellent covers.

I've never had this pattern before. A clip and drop point in a trapper type configuration? I'm excited. The size is smaller than a large trapper, but definitely a hunting sized knife. I think we are going to spend some time out in the woods for years to come.

Thanks again for your kindness Kris. Thank you to the porch for being what you are.

Oh yeah, y'all probably want pics.

I think the knife will be called Húŋkešni and here are some new friends.

good looking knife, great people on the porch. Don't really need much else, eh?

That is a super nice looking knife! This place amazes me constantly- there are so many great people together in one place!

Kris is one of the best, for sure. Congratulations on a beautiful knife. This forum has helped me mentally more times than I can count, and I'm glad to hear it helps other people, too.

That is a very heart warming story and truly an amazing act of kindness. I can honestly say in all my life, I have never seen such acts of kindness as I see here on the porch. Good on you Kris, and good for you Woodrow!

BTW, that's a nice looking rifle, too!

Congrats to you and Kris. I was feeling the same about Wurrwulf's GAW until I came to the porch one day. This place just makes me feel good. Thanks.

Very cool! I remember drooling over the stag on that particular knife back when Kris posted some pictures of it in the totin today thread. A very kind gesture of Kris, congrats its a beauty!

Woodrow
Kris sure knows how to start some momentum with such kindness. May that peace in your mind grow and expand for you. Well done, Kris!

Glad you like the knife, Woodrow, use it in good health. What you have been through would test anyone's inner strength. Have a great holiday season, and we should all be so lucky to have people and things in our life to be thankful for.

Kris

That sure is a beautiful knife, almost as beautiful as the friends you obviously have in your circle. Keep your head up!

Congrats on the splendid Henckels stag copperhead, Woodrow!
And thanks for starting this thread. I really appreciated what you wrote about the mixed signals you were getting from your head and from your heart. "Feelings" are hard to ignore, but lots of times, at least in my experience, they're not very trustworthy. I hope you can recover from the flooding as much as possible as soon as possible.

Kris, best regards for your thoughtful and generous gesture to cheer up a guy when he's down!:cool::thumbup:
