Another tip for the day

Need to get something precision flat? Don't have a surface grinder? This is how I do it. I bought a Granite Machinist Block for about $40. Put sand paper on it and use it, and and sand. Don't forget your Micrometer, if you need it to be a specific thickness from one end to another. I have made slip joint folders. This flatening process is time consuming, but it does work

Gotta second Lynn on this one. You can get the same results using a piece of glass. The advantage of the cheap granite surface plates is that they are a lot harder to knock off the bench and break.

Hey Guys!
I use an aluminum plate (4-1/2" x 22"). I attached a length of u-channel to the underside so i can stick it in my vise. I just spray adhesive onto half-sheets of wet or dry, stick them on, and start sanding. All
it takes is time and elbow grease.

Let me and my 2Cents to this one.....
Rather than bearing down on your work piece with your fingers, Try attaching a piece of wood to it with Crazy glue or double sided tape. This will reduce the elbow grease needed!
