I got Tom to do a regrind on my ZDP189 mini-cyclone and remove the thumb stud while he was at it. Some may like their thumb stud but it just seemed like it was hanging on my pocket and I wanted to get rid of it. The blade really slices now. :D

sweet blade buddy. i just got my lahar back from him today. couldn't be happier :D :D

gotta love Mr. Krein's regrinds

All he's doing is radically lowering the main bevel correct? And this is tricky because of the required jigs and preserving temper, right? I've seen several threads here about his work and they all look top notch...but a lower flat-bevel is all my eyes (and limited knowledge) can see.

Lowering the bevel, thinning the edge in the process, yes. The thing is, he does it freehand (on a dry grinder no less!)

As for the regrind itself, VERY sweet. I'd get something to put in the thumbstud hole, like a Ti rod/cylinder, or a jeweled inlay if you want to get really snazzy.

he is taking the primary grind (which is the larger grind of course) and taking it down to (at least for me and most everyone else) .010in where the primary grind meets the edge grind. the edge you can barely see. it is a paper thin edge when he is done with it
