Its funny how life leads us where it does. The smallest things can cause you to turn one way or another. Anyone believe in manifest destiny? Karma? Fate? Will of God? Whatever you call it, there is something out there that guides us and directs us. I firmly believe that.

After Linda got back from her 10-days of travelling in the Carribean, she was a little different. I could tell things were clicking, whirring, and buzzing in her head, which is like a clockwork anyway. Her analytical brain was entertaining thoughts of us moving to North Carolina. Its funny, because it was my desire to move to NC last time, now she is the one who thinks our life will be better down there... for many reasons.

She spent all this time traveling with her mother, sister, and niece. Her Mother, Jackie, is aging along with her father, Ronnie, who live on the west coast of Florida. She understandibly wants to be close to them in their remaining years. Her sister, Rhonda, also lives on the west coast in FL, a couple hrs from Mom and Dad. Rhonda is recently widowed. Her husband, Adrian, was a 30-year Navy man. God bless him. Rhonda is lonely, and save for her last child leaving for college this fall in North Carolina (see where this is leading?), she is... alone. Not a good place for a 50 year old widow to be.

Rhonda has very little stipend from Uncle Sam, even Adrian's retirement is just not enough to support their very large house in Punta Gorda. The bottom line is that she will have to sell it and move to a more frugal area, hence the thoughts about NC. Linda, who is probably the most altruistic lady on the planet, save for Mother Theresa, wants us to move south so we can all become a closer family.

Our Daughter, grandkids, and son-in-law, live in NC out on the coast. Gravy!

The only drawback is my son, whom I love and cherish very much, has a very lucrative job here as an electrician. It is his thoughts that electrician's dont make squat in teh Southland, but I think he may warm to it if we do move.

Dang it! I have to make this happen. Linda can easily get a job in any hospital down there. I need only a space to put my equipment, and I am in business. What's the holdback? Nothing but selling our house, really.

Oh dang, I'm sorry for rambling on so. :)

the only thing I can ad is to make sure you look in an area where there will be work when you need it. I know you are looking in the mountains of NC but that would be the last place to find work if you REALLY need it. I live about 1 hr from Ashville and the though of moving there(work wise) makes me NERVOUS.

Maybe someone can help..... Moving say closer to a larger area IN case you need work may be better money spent in the long run. Just something to think about.

When I moved to Oregon a few years ago I dreamed of living at the coast there. Nice cool breeze and cool rain but the first week I was there I was at Hammocks Beach reading the want ads and a local coffee shop owner asked me if I brought my work with me...... 2 months later I was moving to Portland to work because NO place up that entire state had steady work. Trust me I looked :D

JUst dont want to see you be the new guy in town, set up shop, and get disapointed buddy!

Jeff,
With the way real eastate prices are going here in New England you could sell your home and probally buy something the same size in NC for half the price.

The cost of living might be cheaper in the south but you also make less money so it's kind of a wash.

Follow your heart Higgy......... Keep the faith, and things will surely work out.

Family is important.......

If you move to Asheville can't you always just go a nice patch of MJ and sell it to the hippies there? Probably decent $$ in that.

Hey thats a thought! And if I dont sell it, I could always smoke it. As long as I have a bag of chips to munch on afterwards, who gives a **** if I aint got a job, right? Is that "professional" advice, from a holistic perspective, Steve-O? :D

Basically, its a matter of where Linda can work. Practically any hospital anywhere. Granted, some civilization would be a good thing. I think as long as I can get some land somewhere around 8-10 acres, I'll be fine. Not sure how this will pan out. We may even make a family compound sort of thing too. I'm not fond of that idea, but I could handle it as long as my wife is happy and I get to make stuff out of metal. Any metro suburb would probably be targeted by us, because she intends to start a dog kennel.

I think I should move to New Bedford and be IG's buddy for life. He can feed me relish, and I will show him how to make knives... :footinmou

How much longer do you have to drive your son to and from his electrician job?

sounds like you need to do what your wife needs to do..
if you both on the same playing field go for it.. :)

Yeah we are into this together. I am for anything that makes her happy right now. I reckon we are all responsible for our own happiness in this life, but bringing some measure of happiness and comfort and security to the ones we love will only bring back some of that happiness in our direction too. That way, its all good you know. :D

As long as I dont have to work for another man besides myself for the rest of my life, I think I can be happy anywhere. I am no stranger to The Southland, in fact, I do love the Southern folks a great deal. I don't know why, but they seem to get along quite well with me too.

Linda and I are now saying we may be putting our house up for sale in January. Guess I better get that deck rebuilt!

I'm glad to hear you've got your time back. I'm sure at heart he is a good boy. I just hope he 's learned not to do stupid stuff with a car.

I had two sisters, both nurses that live(d) in NC. Boht where the type that couldn't stand dumbass management. If she gets to the stage of loolking for work down there, make sure she "interviews" the workers to get an idea.

It was common being pressured to work 2 8 hour shifts in a row, being denied vacations, benefits, etc.

Thanks for the advice, Dave. I think dumbasses in management are everywhere you look these days. Fortunately, Linda is a medical quality analyst, and is not subject to the adversities a nurse has to endure. :)
