I've been meaning to buy a Nalgene Guyot and never seem to have any money when I think of it. :grumpy:
While cruising Walmart and browsing ammunition, I spotted a temporary substitute.
Made by Outdoor Products, all stainless, no plastic parts on the body itself, seems sufficiently thick to boil water in, and at only five bucks, I couldn't pass it up.
It's slimmer than the Nalgene and there's about 1/2 inch of play when put inside my GSI cup. It does 'give' a little when you push on it with a bit of force but it springs back without leaving a mark. I suspect a good whack on a rock might dent it pretty bad but again, at 5 bucks, you could put one in every place that your Guyot isn't. The cap isn't as robust as Nalgene products but since it holds less volume, it should stay together when clipped to gear. It seals nicely and isn't loose in the threads.
I think it's a decent in-a-pinch piece of gear. It should be noted that the larger version utilizes plastic threads on the neck so it would be unsuitable for boiling water. Perhaps, when I have the time, I'll dangle it over my fire pit and see how it holds up.
