Thanks for the illuminating talk (heh heh) re: Luminox and "related" watches. Can anyone suggest a tough analogue or dual timer with an alarm (and pref tritium)? G-shocks are too bulky for me (keep snagging on bike jacket). TIA

If you need an alarm, that cuts down the field to mostly quartz....got a price in mind? Cause a need for tritium gets the price up a tad, and is harder to find.

Some ideas, though:

On the inexpensive, non-tritium end, The Timex Ironman has an analog hands version that is thinner than the G-shock and has plenty of alarm and chronograph features. Same for some other Casios, and there are several Seiko Diver-style analog hand watches with dual time in digital style, but they tend to get a little bulkier. None of these have Tritium, though.

I haven't seen one, but the St Moritz watches look interesting, like this Format 2 Ti Chrono, at www.theoutdoorprofessional.com. Not tritium, but the new stuff being used, like Maraglow, is supposed to be pretty good.

On the higher end, if you can find a used one, Chronosport used to make the UDT, which was a thin profile quartz/analog hands with dual time/timer in digital, and glowing hands. Not tritium, though, I think.

eBay will yield many of the Marathon watches, which have a similarity to the Luminox, including the Traser/Tritium vials, but I haven't seen a dual time one, or one with an alarm. Same for the Stocker and Yale watches--they have traser hands but that's about it. Thin profile, though.

Lastly, you could look at Chase Durer, at www.watchshop.com. They have several that might fit your profile, with the Blackhawk Mach 3 being the only one with an alarm, analog hands, and tritium dial--but no second time zone:-) A little pricey, though.

You might also want to check the Military Watch resouce, at www.broadarrow.net--it it is the Bladeforums of military watches.

Ferret,

Suck it up, buddy, and go with the Casio G-Shock. I have two of them, and a third on the way (model DW900B-1A4V). I don't see how you can beat these watches, even if they are a little bit large (and thick).

PS...I'm paying only $65, (including 3 day shipping) for mine, and it has everything but the kitchen sink in it.

Dann, I felt like I was wearing the town clock when I had one!

Am fixated on tritium at the moment, and drooling over Chase-Durers.

Ferret, the Chase-Durers have tritium paint while the TRASER/LUMINOX/STOCKER & YALE/MARATHON watches have the tritium vials that glow without needing to be charged by light. On the average, the tritium vials are far brighter. Don't salivate yet.

OK, so I'm salivating over the Marathon Canadian thingys to, the metal banded jobbies. In fact, if I wasn't already a flaming knife fool I could easily become one of those watch perverts.
