Does anybody have any experience with their waved knives (Emersons, Enduras, Delicas, etc.) causing any kind of wear on their pant pockets? What I'm getting at is, what's the life expectancy for a typical pair of denim jeans if a waved knife is used consistently (3-6 times a day)?

Depends on the knife and the wave. Emerson knives are known to wear more on pants than the Spyderco waves. The Spyderco waves are also generally known to work more consistently. If you were to wave open your Spyderco waved knife 3-6 times daily on the same pants, I imagine that you would notice some wear on the pockets within a matter of 3-7 weeks. But in all honesty waving your knife open that many times seems unrealistic. I open my waved Endura numerous times daily and wave it maybe 1-3 times every 2-5 days or so.

I used knife with home-made wave - very similar to Spyderco one in shape and size for some two years, and my pants pockets are still in good shape.

My pants are fine from my Emerson Karambit ( I love that knife so much I had to stop carrying it to stop waving it) and my custom (bench grinder) waved Spyderco Centofante 3. Thats about a year now and still a hard charger

Waves no matter whether homemade, or factory will take their toll on pockets. Pocket clips will also take their toll because generally Waved knives get slid on and off the pocket several times over the normal amount of uses any pocket ever sees. When you multiply the number of times your knife is taken on and off daily the wear rate greatly increases so there is actually a double wear factor with Waved knives. Not one.

I've noticed two things quite frequently when I see other users Waved knives come into my shop for something. 1) The Emersons are almost always loose in the pivot with lateral blade wobble, so much so that the blades many times are very near dragging the non lock liner from being so far off center. I've seen this repeatedly. I'm sure this is on purpose to make them easier openers. 2) Many also have the pocket clip sprung up so it will sit up off the body of the knife. In other words it doesn't grip as much anymore so it slides right off the pocket with very little if any friction or grip at all.

I've Waved a lot of knives. The Spyderco knives Wave open the easiest and are the easiest to learn on and use. Emersons, some in paticular are very hard on pockets especially when new. I have had some old well broken in ones that worked very well though. I've never bought a brand new Emerson that wasn't grainy and a bit rough. They are old school I'd say, that are the kind you buy and break in over time to really gain more appreciation of them after they have become good and pocketworn.
