Another WAVE thief!

"Raptor Horn® opening/thumb-brace"

Wow, and they have the balls to patent a feature they ripped off from someone else.

Real nice.

I hope some chinese sweat shop starts making Raptor copies and floods the market ASAP.

Wow, I've seen a few sneaky attempts at "wave" function but that one is PURE RIP-OFF ! ! !

Hope it gets addressed.

Take a look at the knife.
The clip is positioned for point down carry, it won't wave in that carry position.

Take a look at the old Kershaw Talon with the can opener feature, it might have qualified as a waved knife but it's got the clip on the wrong end. It's a great Pikal knife and can be waved but only if you carry it loose and grip it correctly.

Even the Emerson patent refers to a knife with a similar, though larger, hook at the pivot;

This patent covers the finger stud and wave like function;

Then there is Bram Franks patent;

There was a guy selling FAKW limited edition knives on eBay which had a 'thorn' to do the same thing as the Emerson wave, he doesn't sell them anymore.

Are you sure about that? I've got a serrated Kershaw Talon and the clip is set for tip-up carry.

Coincidentally, someone just posted a bottle-opener Talon for sale today. :D

harm is right, however the issue with this is that the knives were shown to the folks at EKI as a POCKET-CLIPLESS folder, wherein the "Wave" feature would not be able to function as per the Emerson Wave. However when it was eventually manufactured, they had mounted a pocket clip which essentially transformed their "Raptor Horn" into an opening device which functions similar to the EKI Wave..so is it a rip-off?...that's up to the individual's perception.

Cheers,
Nick

the wave on these knives are used with permission from EKI.

The clip is on the wrong end for waving.

Same problem I have with the Kershaw bottle opener Talon.

Hi groos,

if you look at the pictures on the website, the clip is reversible. Hence by reversing the clip, you can still have the Wave effect.

Nick

It's on the wrong end of my CUDA Maxx, too, but that never stopped me pulling it out of my pocket and as soon as the flipper cleared, snagging it and waving it open.

We're not talking about greased lightning here, but it's fast and it's smooth and the Maxx opens more reliably like that than most Waved knives.

Hello,

I've cut and paste the following exerpt which is from Ernie himself in response to this in another forum. Hope this helps.

Dear Members,

Just so that everyone is on the same page about the Raptor knife situation.

Richard Ryan consulted me over a year ago concerning the knife and the blade catcher/ guard feature. In fact, at that time he was asking if we would be interested in producing it. Our plate was, as usual, already full and we declined. We talked about the wave-like feature and Richard assured me that it, (the knife) was drilled so that the clip mounting position (tip down) would preclude it being used in the wave opening position and that the knife would never be advertised as having a wave-like opening feature.

However, the clips were subsequently drilled for both tip up and tip down carry which of course has changed the dynamics. However, that being said, it was not anyones intent to knock off the wave feature but resulted merely as an honest mis-step along the way from prototype to finished product.

Both Richard Ryan and Blade Tech are stand up guys/company and they have assured me that in the future if more are made, we will make an agreement on proper licensing of the wave patent.

That my friends, is the long and short of it.

But, I must say.

Thank you all for being so very vigilant on my behalf and on the behalf of all the employees at Emerson Knives. Your efforts are never in vain and we appreciate it more than you will ever know.

Best Regards,

Ernest R. Emerson

Cheers and Regards,
Nick

What does that matter? The clip is reversible to all four positions.
