Several weeks back I decided to do a little experiment- I carried a SAK Pioneer for a week and used it exclusively. I enjoyed it even tho I don't rotate the SAK as my EDC much anymore.

This week I'll be doing another experiment and giving up all my folders in place of a mora companion. (I'll still have my ZDP manbug on my keys) but I usually carry a 3" and a 4" folder and I won't have those on me during this time.

Other than when I'm fishin this will be the first FB I've carried so I'm look forward to it, I had to rig up a sheath as the factory sheath wouldn't work with my para-cord belt cause its to thick and my rigged up sheath (which is made out of the factory one but with a different attachment method) is actually very comfy to wear. I'm using a carbon Mora Companion so I'll have to stay on top of maintainance with the snow storm that came threw last night theyre's salt everywhere.

In this thread I'll post my general thoughts/concerns and my opinions as well as a log of what I may have used it for. Anyone else who wants to do a similar experiment feel free to post along with me.

Other than curiosity I'm doing this experiment to see how fit I think a mora might be to give as a gift to a totally non-knife person who doesn't currently carry, but could really use for her job a nice utility blade (if I do give her one it'll be a stainless one).

I think it will take time to adjust to the sheath banging into things and poking you. Other than that, I think you will love it.

Could also neck hang on para. They weigh nothing and don't really show up much under a light jacket.

I've been carrying a 3 1/2" Shaerks fb in a pocket sheath for about a week now. I don't think it'll ever completely replace a folder for me but it has it's advantages. I can do some prying and hammering without fear of loosening a pivot or lock. I have a little more faith in it in certain situations. But I have to watch where I use it. My job has me in customers homes all day and some of them may get a little panicked at the sight of a fb no matter how small.

In my job as a kitchen carpenter, I also work in the customers home.
I arrive in a van, loaded with the new kitchen and around 250 pounds of tools.

There's plenty of various working knives in the boxes, but I also carry a fixed, a small folder and a Leatherman Multi-Tool.
The fixed knife can be anything between 3" - 4,8" bladelenght and is chosen from my collection.
Craftsmen here together with LEO's, Military's and people with a defined legal use for a knife, are excepted from general laws of no knives in public places.

Sometimes I carry a high-end powdersteel knife, but just as often it's a Mora knife.
Right now it's the laminated #311 Mora with Sambar stag crown.
It's carried in a modified Bark River Bushcraft A sheath.
It has got a lowhanging beltloop and this keeps the knife out of the way in tight positions.

It maybe Sunday, but I'm on my way to the workshop, to load the van with tomorrows work.
So I'm dressed already in my working clothes.

When out of work and in town, I don't carry anything more than a SAK camper.
In the City I have more use of a bottle opener, than a fixed knife, so I leave the fixed at home.

OK, I'll bite and piggyback on your thread if you don't mind.

I EDC a folder, and rotate through about 5 depending on mood and weekday/weekend. I'm in an office environment all week, and it is in the defense industry, so our security folks get a little weird about certain things. I can get away with a 2-2.5 inch folder as long as it isn't "menacing" looking or I'm not flashing it about, which I'm not prone to do anyway. I take it out when I need to use it. So while at work I carry either a Rat 2 w/ black scales, an Opinel #6, a Kershaw Leek, or a Sog Twitch II with the rosewood scales. Hard to seem menacing with any of those. On the weekends I might rotate in a Rat 1, a Skyline (orange, so it stands out a little too much at work), or a SAK.

So if I'm going to carry a FB at work, it needs to be the smallest I've got, which is an Izula. It carries nice in a pocket of a pair of dress slacks or khakis, so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm going to caveat this by saying I'll probably carry the Leek or Twitch as well, while at work, in case I want a knife and can't be discrete. Who knows how someone might react to the Izula, and it's not worth my job, or even just a slap on the wrist.

The idea of a FB EDC has intrigued me, so thanks for inspiring me!
