Well, I know what it is, but don't know why?

Its a Model 191 Zipper (Vanguard) with white elk antler handles and brass bolsters with the single black spacers.

It's a 2002 year model and is #124/250 (on the back of the blade) and signed by CJ Buck 02 on the front of the blade with that etcher he uses.

THEN, right in the middle of the blade about a quarter inch off the bottom edge is what looks like a painted (stenciled) on 1960 - in fairly bold black. And thats all it has on it except for the Buck Anvil USA ( in its normal place) . Just the 1960 with either a dot or dash following.

Anyone have any ideas?

Larry,
Shepherd Hills Cutlery ordered a special project that mimicked the Buck Family Favorites from 2002. In place of the 532, they substituted a 119. Chuck signed it, CJ signed the 191 and facsimile signatures were printed on the 401 and 118 models for Al Buck and HH Buck.
The 1960 - marking indicates CJ's year of birth. The two models with Al and HH Buck signatures show years of birth and death. Example: 1890 - 1949.
These make a nice set. However, Shepherd Hills did not sell many of the sets with matched numbers, probably because the knives came in by model instead of by set. It may be that some walk-in customers were able to get matching sets.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Larry for the great information. I'll keep an eye out for more of these. It's really a good looking piece.
