Really, we should have a sub-forum for these kinds of thread. ;)

---------------

I plan to sell some knives as soon as my friend gets his CC and can get me registered as Gold. Can put up a little of my own money too, so I'll put the price cap at 200$, a fair estimate.

I was looking at making an online purchase here pretty soon. Nothing decided on yet except that I may need to buy another Boker Wharcom to replace mine after an accident broke the lock. I did have a few things in mind though...

-A higher-end BM. Thinking about a few different models, like the 732 Ares, a Rukus, Mini Skirmish, AFCK etc. I'd want at least a 3.25 inch blade and would prefer axis lock and G10.

-High end Spyderco. My favorite tactical is the Military. I'd like something similar but with a different lock. Para didn't quite fit me right and many of the other knives they offer in that size are a fair bit bulky, like the Manix and D'allara. Considering getting a fully serrated knife from them, since I've warmed up to the idea of carrying one SE and one PE folder for EDC. Thinking about the CPMD2 Military since it's a good update to my favorite folder, but I'd just like to try out something new I guess.

-Maybe a Kershaw Spec Bump, but I'd want to send it to Mr. Krein for a re-grind before using it and that would bump the price up some.

-A bunch of inexpensive knives. A couple of Byrds, a few Boker CLB knives, a SAK or two etc.

-Another traditional or two. Saw a Case with a Wharncliffe and Clip 2 blade configuration that I really liked. Currently have a Buck 4 inch wood handled stockman and a Queen 3.25 inch stockman in bone / D2.

I think that covers it. Just suggest some interesting knives and I'll let you know what I pick when the time comes. Thanks.

Thanks, that doesn't look too bad. I have a BM 420 and they look quite similar, with that model having a deeper finger choil and flatter blade spine. I'll put that one on my might buy list as well.

Well, that sure narrows it down, Vivi! :)

I guess of all you've mentioned, the ZDP Caly3 is mostly what comes to mind. However as a pure cutting tool, I can't say it's any better than the ZDP Caly Jr. at half the price.

Re: Benchmades, my only advice is handle 'em before buying. Some BM models can be very surprising in terms of size, feel, ergos, ease of operation, etc.

If you're serious about something traditional, IMO a really nice slipjoint is a knife you can enjoy for a lifetime. I don't know if Todd Davison has anything in that price range, but his knives are gorgeous (check makers forums here.) If you could land a Davison for two bills, I think you'd be a very happy man.
