I am thinking about getting one of these plastic handle knives. I haven't handled any of them except the BM.

Benchmade 551 Griptillian

Camillus Heat

SOG Trident folder

With your all mighty knowledge of these models, which do you recommend?

I have a BM 551 and like it a lot. You really can't go wrong with it. Some might advise to save up and get one with D2 or S30V steel, but I've been pretty satisfied with the standard 440C.

My son recently got a Heat and it's also impressive in a different way. The Heat assist has a unique feature -- you can convert it to manual opening by removing and replacing a screw (screw and tool provided). If you like assisted opening go with the Heat. If not, get a Grip.

The Heat has a somewhat slimmer handle and slightly longer blade (3.63"?).

I have a 551 Griptilian. It's one heck of a good pocket knife. Get one, and then get a 556 Mini-Griptilian to go with it. I also have a 556 Mini-Griptilian.

I own a Griptilian 550BTOD, Doug Ritter Griptilian, and a 551 Griptilian in D2 steel from Cabela's.

All three knives are great. They feel good in the hand, the axis lock is strong, and smooth.

I am left handed, so the Benchmades work well for me.

You can't go wrong with any Griptilian model.
