I'm trying to find the perfect EDC. I do a lot of physical labor and use my knifes a lot. I love my scallion, but it's a tad too small. I love my Needs Work, but the edge is too brittle - it does NOT live up to its name. I like my Leek, but again the edge seems weak and its a bit small still. I like my buck Rush, but it doesnt seem to hold or take an edge well...or one that i like anyhow-it just feels wrong?? I have a knockoff auto with a tanto blade - my only tanto- and i think the cheap knife gave me a bad impression of tantos...but im thinking of giving them a try

I often use my knife to score and pry off painted heat registers....cut thru boxes, thick rope and tough plastic....slice 18-wheeler flatbed tarps 45 ft at a time, 3 thick .... pretty abusive

I dont like those whomping 4" blades....too big. I really like my Colt MK-4folder...I think it has a 3.1" blade?? Regardless, it is the longest blade I'd ever want...and seems to be the right rigidity too....SOLID. I just want something comparable, preferrably AO or auto...but quality matters most

i just ordered a Camillus Blaze in hopes of hitting the jackpot

Any ideas?

Spyderco Delica?--Tough (from my own use and from stories I read here) Not AO, though

Spyderco Mini-Manix?--Can still be had despite being disco'd. Smaller but just as tough as the larger version

Cold Steel Voyager series--available in 3, 4 or 5 inch sizes.

Cold Steel Vaquero series--different sizes and wicked cutters.

Hope this helps.

great suggestions...im looking them all over...the shallot has the same type of blade as my needs work tho, right? i find the edge to be to fine

i like the look of the kabar mule...anyone use one?

Benchmade Mini-Grip if you aren't set on it being AO. If you are get a Benchmade Apparition, it has the strongest AO mechanism of all the ones I have tried. Kershaw makes the best AO's availiable IMO, they are consistant, inexpensive, and people have put the design to the test, plus they have the smoothest feel without being too weak.

Since you seem to be a fan of Kershaws (like me ) I say try a Mini-Cyclone.

Klein tools makes a sharpening steel with a built in chisel edge for prying. I use it as an alternative to prying with my blade.

I currently carry a CRKT M16-12FDZ at work and a M16 13SF at the base. Both are AUS 8 Steel, combo edge, tanto point knives. I do some scraping and a little prying with them and have never been worried about breaking the blade. I also cut plastic banding with them by twisting the blade inside the band until it gives. They both feel good in my hand and have held up well. Not the highest dollar choice but a good working knife.
:)

Hmm Good quality, edge retention, AO, 3in blade, How about one of the new Benchmade Mini Strykers, #906 or 907. But if you would like to stick to a brand you know I have heard great things about the Kershaw mini Cyclones.
