About six months ago I bought a Godzilla green FFG FRN Endura in ZDP-189. Didn't have any experience with the steel at the time of purchase, however, after ~six months of heavy use, I have to say I really dig this steel. I don't have any real science to throw at you regarding ZDP's ability to outperform x,y,z but from my purely anecdotal pseudoscience, this steel has outperformed (edge retention and resistance to edge chipping/folding and blade scratching) my Spydies with M390 and M4. Anyone else with the same experience?

blade design, profile and thickness play into it. the endura has a thin blade going right into the cutting edge. you can sharpen your zdp down to 10 deg per side. the militaries have somewhat thicker blades, although they have nice bellies.

the only trouble with my endura zdp is chipping. i have one visible chip near the tip and two small ones at the middle seen with a lens. gotta be careful during use and sharpening. a light touch over progressive fine stones is what's needed.

I don't have the same experience as you but as you say, if you don't have science to throw at us, then all that really matters is how ZDP performed for you. :D

I would say that for your uses, ZDP would be the best in performance. BTW, you didn't mention the kind of performance(edge holding probably). Others experiences might differ but I do agree with you that ZDP is a great steel. I have my ZDP Endura at 22-24 inclusive, finished at 400 grit. It's a buzzsaw. :D

I think you may be right about the blade geometry being a factor in my observations. As with singularity35, I also have a gritty 22 degree on my Endura and the knife just keeps going and going.

Does anyone have any experience with ZDP on a thicker blade-maybe the ZT's that had it?
