I was at a sporting goods store over the weekend, and looking at their clothes, and when looking at some Carhartt pants noticed on the right front pocket was a patch of leather along with a loop on the leg. I figgered out the loop was for carrrying a hammer which has been around for years, and then thinking on the patch on the pocket realized it was for carrying a measuring tape with a clip on it but said "hey" that is the solution to carrying a pocket knife with a clip, and not fraying the pocket.......unless your are a lefty :D , and then of course it would not work but for us righty's it is a solution.
They are not those normal baggy carpenter pants but jeans that appeared to be like the Wrangler, Levis style that most of us wear.
Check them out, and see what you think.
Oh, and by the way I do not work for(I'm retired :) ) or own any stock in Carhartt clothing copmpany :)

I've carried a knife in my Carhartts and misc. jeans for years, minimal fraying. There's some, but a good pair of Carhartts should have it anyway .

Even dress pants don't get too bad for me, same knife and 6-8 pairs of primary pants for a couple years now (same with the knife). But it's a good idea, I might try that sometime.
A patch of same-colored cloth might look better, and not stretch out the clip like thicker leather.
