Along with an order from a knife supply place in the states I bought some West System Epoxy , well I thought I did . I have 205 Hardener and no 105 resin to mix with it. I don't usually order from this place and I really don't want to pay shipping for a single item. So anyone know of a product with

Bisphenol-A type epoxy resin 25085-99-8 > 50%
Benzyl alcohol 100-51-6 < 20%
Bisphenol-F type epoxy resin 28064-14-4 < 20%

or close to it or should I just put it in the back of the cabinet and forget about it ? One would think that part A of 2 part epoxies would be relatively similar no?

I'll spend another hour searching for MSDS of various epoxies that I can buy locally and then put it down to attention to detail.

You probably won't find a match.

I'd just order some 105 resin from Alpha Knife Supply.

I can buy it locally, so I'm willing to bet you can too.

I found it online with the West website where to buy feature

Call or email them & ask who your local distributors are & you will get a list.

I would never mix two different epoxy components for any critical assembly. Set it aside until you are able to get its legitimate mate.

Reading the MSDS is like reading the ingredients list to grandma's pie but not having the quantities of the ingredients or the recipe - you don't really know how grandma's pie is made. ;-)

I would just go to Lee Valley Tools and buy the resin there

A Big Thanks again 1 through 10 , I went to Lee Valley and bought the whole system kit for $70 , so now I have the 105 resin 32oz, pumps and 205 and 206 hardeners. Worked out well , too bad I didn't know of it being there in the first place I gotta be more diligent with stuff. I'm stuck with 5 Spec Op sheaths meant for 6" plus BLADE not Knife now too, I guess I better make some bayonets or something or cut short and modify them . I'm disappointed with them in the first place since they only have MOLLE on the front and not the back which makes no sense at all.

Off topic what's a fabric to use as a clear layer for homemade micarta, was thinking of having an image on a layer and then a few layers of clear on top?

You can't really see a couple of layers of glass on top of a graphic, I guess it depends how thick you want to go.

Good luck, I really enjoy working with epoxy and the West System really rocks.

I was thinking of using an iron on sheet with the image printed on white linen and then some clear layers to protect it . I could just put the last layer of epoxy on top of it but then it restricts any shaping of the handle. I was thinking layers of linen with glow in the dark powder mixed into the epoxy for those layers then the image layer and a layer to protect it . This is just brainstorming idea right now for a blade I have in mind, I know it can be done with fiberglass layers because my best friend has a " misfists crimson ghost" layered into his prosthetic leg and all he did was give them a t-shirt to use. Ok the blade in mind is a rip-off of Rick's The Hunted TOPS blade shape minus the teeth and I have a different idea for the 2 grinds that I think I'm more capable of doing . If I make what's in my mind it will be very badass ,I still have one knife to grind bevels on in a batch of 5 . They all have to be heat treated , handles etc, which means I have to finish my new dust collector before the handles are made then I can start working on this one. That and I have all the parts for a new bigger forge( minus ITC-100 or Satanite for on top of the wool) to build at some point soon before it's cold too. September means my custom 2x72 gets built Yeah!
