Serious discussion here. I'm not talking politics, I'm talking REAL solutions. They've almost become common place. School shootings. The reasons vary, but the outcome is the same. Gun control laws, reasonable or not, don't seem to stop them from occurring. Bad people will always find a way to get what they need to fulfill their goals. So let's throw aside laws and politics. What are some REAL solutions? Man can solve so many things, so when are we going to solve this?

The restoration of Honor, Integrity, and justice to all aspects of ALL of our
daily lives, public and private.

Well said.

It may sound a little off. But arm and train the teachers. And as a psychologist who has worked with delinquent youth, I can honestly say that there are warning signs, it's really not that hard.

Parenting. Almost all of the problems involving students occurring in my son's middle school stem from the lack of parenting and adult involvement in their kid's lives. It's like that all over the world.

It's amazing to me how when you take a troubled kid, give him/her some boundaries, show them some respect and command respect in return, they literally change overnight.

There are three issues common to Kids at Risk.....Abuse,Neglect,and Boundary issues....which nearly
always originate at home, with parrents who have unresolved issues of their own...and usually make the
kids feel that they're at fault.

Yes,there are signs, and someone with a high measure of wisdom,courage...and love needs to address
the "acting out" while it's minor.....before it turns inward and starts building toward something major.

I don't agree that school shootings are almost commonplace. Rather, the media uses them to forward a particular agenda, and relives these rare events so repeatedly and with such enthusiam that they seem commonplace. Even so, one tragedy is one too many.

School shootings - and societal ills generally - are not mitigated with legislation or the confiscation of firearms from the law abiding citizenry. Those are merely superficial band-aids to make people feel good. The real solution to this issue is the restoration of the nuclear family, and the return to our reliance on our Creator and the moral revolution which inevitably follows. Inanimate objects (guns) do not cause school shootings. It is the darkness of the human heart. That darkness grows and thrives in the absence of a mature, stable mother and father who raise their children to be stable, mature adults.

Many in our society have championed the destruction of the nuclear family structure, and have driven God from both public and private life. Those who cling to the traditional family unit are characterized as homophobic or racist, and those who acknowledge that this universe was created and did not simply spring into existence out of nothingness are chastized and dismissed. The consequences of this societal devolution are as predictable as they are inevitable. And it has nothing to do with guns.

You cannot "solve" eruptions of violence. It is a natural occurence, not to say it is a happy occurence, but it is as old as man. Protect children. Refuse to be ashamed of the idea that important assets deserve armed security. What passes for security at our schools is shameful. The NRA has it right: guard and protect our children. In addition, train teachers and students. Duck and cover is wrong.

Agree. Shoot, Move, Communicate.

Google "Josh Gilchrist". The kid was in my boy scout troop in Huron. I was 19 at the time of the incident. Having collected knives my whole life, this incident made me take my hobby mostly underground. Carry a buck knife, tell nobody you "Collect Knives". His father and I used to compare notes and show off recent purchases. He had good parents. His mother whom he killed was one of my favorite librarians. Complete and total failure of Huron's psychological community.

Edit: Reread an internet article where the police said they have no "Background or events leading up to the incident" Total BS. He showed all the classic symptoms for Schizophrenia.

We cannot stop these shootings, we can only defend against them. But if we wanted to try to stop them, how about we actually protect the children as best as we can? All of these people that are so convinced that firearms in the hands of properly trained individuals need to STFU. Nobody complained when we put air martials in planes with firearms and firearms in the coqpit after 911, yet having a competant armed gaurd at a school is somehow a bad thing??? It is 100% deplorable when we gaurd our currency better than we do our future(children).

I see your points as to religion, but thats kind of BS to a certain extent. Yes, the values taught through religion are very important. However, to say they would stop these situations is naive as can be. Hear me out, if all it takes for some whackjob to not go on a murder spree is religion, then the problem still exists.

What I mean is if ones brain functions properly, you dont need religion to tell you that murdering 20 children and 6 adults is wrong. Could religion help?? Sure. But to say thats the answer is extremely naive.

We aren't. It's that simple. It would require several generations of self-discipline and willing sacrifice to correct the decay that has led us to this point. People would have to willingly accept responsibility for their own actions, then accept the responsibilities of raising their children to embrace that same standard. The only way that is going to happen is post Apocalypse. Society is too far gone to be saved.

That is just my opinion of course, based on some knowledge of history and half a century of personal observation.

"Gun control " doesn't prevent crime - it disarms honest citizens.
There will always be bad folks looking to hurt, or take advantage of decent people.
Healthy adults are (usually) the result of happy families, with 2 parents.
Encouraging marriage, with (optimally) one stay at home parent would be good.
A health care system that provides for mentally unstable people,
rather than having them end up on the street, would be good too.
Barring that, ending "gun free zones" which only declare a "target rich" environment,
would be a step in the right direction. Israel armed teachers, shootings stopped.

Oh, and the research I read, found mass shooting rates were flat.

Sorry, guys. There is no way this is not a political topic. It can only go in the Political Arena, paid members only.
