ATP-641, nothing at all, or some other way to reduce decarb on 1084? The data sheet from New Jersey SB states, "Turco, ATP-641, foil". Turco seems unobtainium, and foil seems unnecessary for 1084. I also read about a thin coating of satanite, some including a wire wrap, but I'm not completely understanding how that works. I assume like a clay hamon application but on the entire blade. Any chance I could take in your advise, what went right and wrong when you tried xyz?

I use ATP-641. It's very easy to use. After stirring it up well, I dip the knife tip in the can it comes in and then spread it out over the blade with a toothbrush. Dry it with my wife's hair dryer, takes a couple minutes.

Satanite works to some extent, but there is a little bit of decarb left over. No need for wire at all, just paint on a thin wash with a toothbrush or whatever.

Clean any oil off the knife, mix the satanite with water until it's a thin liquid, wipe the liquid over the blade and leave it to dry
All of these are going to work by creating a thin layer that blocks access of oxygen to the steel
