Like many here on the porch I have been fortunate to develope some great friendships as a result of this forum. Kris and I have been communicating through text and phone calls for a pretty long while now and have come to know much about each other. We have the same type of professional, share much of the same tastes in Knives as well as many views on other things.

Due to the distance from his location to mine a meeting was a slim chance, at least until the subject of International Custom Cutlery Exposition knife show came up. I know for both of us the event was much anticipated and required planning and saving in order to be able to attend. The plan was hatched and preparations made. Kris let me know that I could share a room with him and another guy who collects knives, you can find a picture of Paul, Kris, myself and Barry Lee Hands at dinner in the Mugshots thread.

It was at this dinner where I was presented with the gift I am about to show. This knife was in Paul's collection and between Kris and Paul some shenanigans happened to make me the new custodian of this knife. When Paul first showed me this knife I was just happy to get the chance to see it and enjoy it for what it was, a fine knife that belonged to a great guy.

Kerry Hampton Saddle Horn with etched A2 and beautiful bone covers. I think it's a beauty!

Knife shows are great for the knives but what truly makes them special are the people. I could not imagine two better people to spend some time at a knife show with than Kris and Paul. I don't have the gift of being able to express my thoughts and feelings to convey the true depth of appreciation of the time spent or the gift given

A very generous gift indeed! Nice knife, and an enviable friendship is what I see!!
Congrats to you all!

Thanks Charlie. Knives bring many of us together in one fashion or another and that's special, but it is the people that make it excetionally special. In the end knives can be so many things but it's still about the people.

Fantastic gift and shenanigans. Kerry's work is fantastic but more so this friendship I just read of even tops that~

Chris, how fantastic, not only the knife but more so the friendship through this great forum. Duncan and I had a very similar experience this summer although his mileage to travel was mind blowing. We had planned and discussed over two years and it was well worth the wait. A friendship forged to last a lifetime.

Duncan and I have our sights set for next years rendezvous as well. Be great if you and Kris could also attend;)

Great story you shared and I enjoyed the pic in the mug shot thread:thumbup::cool:

Really cool Chris...and Kris! (And Paul even though I don't know you lol).

I love the color variation in the bone...that antique/pocket worn look will look great on this one after some handling and use. Acid etched A2 is awesome in it's own respect. It gets this natural patina look after a while and the color changes are cool to watch happen.

Congrats!!

What a beautiful knife. I saw the pic in the mugshots thread and it looked like you fellers had a big time, congrats!

Another fine story to start my day with. Good fer all you fellers. That knife-uff da , as a Norwegian descended friend of mine would say.
Thanks, Neal

I had a great trip, Chris, thanks for making the drive. It was a tremendous time, great BBQ and steaks, great knives at the show, and great friends to enjoy it all with. I hope that knife is with you for a long time. I think those are old Case bone handles.

Kris

Congratulations on receiving that amazing gift, Chris, and thanks for sharing the story, a real tribute to Kris's generosity and thoughtfulness!!:thumbup:
