Antique Bronze Finish

Can anyone help me to get an antique finish to a bronze guard that I have made. I know there is a pickeling solution that a person can use but I can't find anything on it.

Brass oxide. Get it from jewelry or engraving supply places. I don't know what the actual chemical is, but if you dilute it with water, it will give a very nice patina. If you don't dilute it, it will give more of a black patina, like blued steel, but on brass or bronze. It seems to turn copper black no matter what dilution you use.
Hope this helps.

www.riogrande.com These folks have several products for getting different patinas- brown, black, green. Request their free tool and equipment catalog. Liver of sulphur is used a lot by jewelers, gawdawful smell!

Gavin, when you get the guard done, please post a picture of it. I have some bronze thats been laying around the shop for 3 years. Only used it once and that was layered between two pieces of stainless. Never thought you could change the looks or color of it. MIght have a use for it after all.
