A friend has a Barrel Knife or Finnish Knife (Finski Noshz) made in Eskilstana, Sweden by John Engstrom in the late 1870's. It's a folder with a very unique opening system (to say the least) and is made of steel, brass, and wood. Hoping someone here might know a little more about these knives and what one might be worth. Thanks in advance.

Run a search on Ebay, they're some-what common, but hard to find in really nice shape. The last few I've seen in dealer catalogs were $75-125 range. Condition ranged from very good to excellent.

There also called folding Sloyd knives.

Thanks for the reply and the folding Sloyd info. I had Googled for information but forgot all about checking Ebay.

I've seen two at knife shows. One was operational but in used condition for about 75 - 100, the other in excellent condition 150 - 200. I was told they are rare in some areas, but more common in US communities with swedish/finnish/norwegian roots.

Try Northwest Knives and Collectibles in Oregon, I think the owner Bill Claussen collects barrel knives. The custom maker Richard Rogers has made at least one or two very nice modern barrel knives. Hope this helps. I don't have the # handy for Northwest knives, you might do a google search...
