Gentlement,

You all have experienced the problems of having something you would like tell about, but no one to tell who really cares to here about it. So this forum is the perfect place for this story. I just got in the mail a "Beaver Falls Cutlery PA" pocket knife. This knife is big a heavy. Ebony handles and steel liners. to the untrained eye this thing is far to plain. No bone or stag, no fancy engravings or file work. But to me it is just gorgeous. I have wanted to add one of these to my collection of Pennsylvania related knives for years. Either I didn't have the money or couldn't find one buy. This came via a friend of a friend and the rest is history. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. When I hold this bad boy in my hand, I can feel the history running through my viens. If you've ever had that feeling you know what I am talking about. I am crazy about these old knives.

How old is that knife?

I was just at a knife show in Marlboro, MA. There were a bunch of sellers with old slipjoints, and a number of them were made in PA. I guess you shoulda been there. :D

Have you been to the military museum in Intercourse PA? Lots of Randalls, lots of cutlery from the French/Indian war to present. I had their website, but lost it, if you contact Country Knives in Pa, they should be able to help you out. Lots of neat stuff!

Shaldag;

Whereabouts are you? I'm in Hudson, MA. I normally go to the Marlboro show....sadly could not dig my car out in time yesterday and had other commitments in the afternoon.

I'm about midway between Boston and Providence. It was a bit or a drive-- but still, how many closer knife shows am I gonna find? Let's face it-not too many knife events in the northeast. This was the first Marlboro show I have been to, and I definately enjoyed myself. I was afraid that a lot af people couldn't make it yesterday, and there were a number of empty tables. Too bad.

Maybe we oughta consider the nametag thing for next time.........

I wish I could have gone to Mass. Sounds great. Not many knive shows in my area at all. I am looking forward to the Queen Cutlery show in Titusille PA though. Beaver Falls knives were made in the 1870's-80's, the remaining equipment was sold to Catt, of little VAlley NY in 1891. As a collector this is prized item for my Pa collection. Only true knife nuts would understand that. Thanks guys.

Hi PA Knife
I know how you feel. I am a NJ collector and have many old Booth Brothers from Newark, Sussex, Boonton and Solkholm. This Co. sold to one of your PA companys Tidioute in about 1903. I get the same feeling that you are talking about everytime I get one of these old NJ Knives. But I can tell you this. My favorite knife is an old Frary A1 congress heavily worn blades about 50% wear. Very nice smooth bone handles. Boy if knives could only talk. Over 130 years of stories.
Enjoy it. likem :)

HEY,

go over to the Bernard Levine section and look under the BEAVER FALLS CUTLERY post. I have a picture there. Let me know what you think. Booth knives are very collectable. Glad to see that others appreciate the old firms like I do.
