My mother in law opened a booth at an antique show, and I got drafted to go help out. The booth next door had these two knives, and I bought them for $10. The smaller one is labeled Remington and doesn't really seem all that special, but it has good snap and full blades. I think I did better on the larger one, which is labeled Dwight Devine and Sons USA. I had never heard of them before, but the shied looked like an old Schrade so I gave it a shot. After I got home I did some searching, and it seems these knives were made until 1941. There is not a lot of information that I could find. The blades appear to be completely unused! The small blade has a half stop and the snap on both blades is decent.
Does anyone have more information on these?

I don't have any information but I can tell you that you did very well! Congratulations!

Wow, those look great. I would do that deal all day!

That Devine & Sons is something, thanks for sharing them.

Real cool finds. I really like the old stuff. They should clean up well. I'm working on an old Robeson I found at an estate sale now.

You scored Very Big !
smaller one is a Half Congress pattern; larger one is a Rooster Jack or Farmer's Jack, this is a fairly rare pattern and highly collectible.
hard to tell condition from the picture but both look very good.

I would have been jumping for joy to have found one of those for $10. You did very well. Congrats.

Helping your mother in law sure paid off! Congrats on the great score!

I am working now on cleaning them up, so far all is looking good. I did the farmer jack first, here is the result:

I just lightly polished the blades and cleaned the pivots, liners, and covers. I also sharpened the blades carefully, they took a nice edge!

The Dwight Divine is a show stopper!! Absolutely Divine....pun intended!! The Major bought Ulster Knife Co. in 1876 and they continued to make some of the finest knives available...then and today and you have one!!! It's a super Wharncliffe with pick bone......wow:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::D!!

Here is a link for you:

great finds, I never find anything worthwhile in these stalls. Good conservative job with the cleaning, I would only clean them up just enough for preservation purposes - kill rust etc.

I guess I finally got lucky:) thanks for that link about the history of the company, very interesting material!

Nice score on both of them!! That Ulster is a really rare piece and in really nice condition too.

I'm never in the right place at the right time either. You can tell that's a special find even if one doesn't know about that manufacturer.

I'll give you a hundred percent profit for them right now! ;) :D

Seriously, that is a once in several lifetimes score, and big congrats. Whatever else, don't over-clean them.
You've got a couple of instant family heirlooms there.

I agree with what Steve says above. Furthermore you find them when you least expect to, when doing something other than 'knifin'. So, go help your mother-in-law !
