Antique Store Schrade

Spending a week here in Biloxi, I had a chance to explore a cool little antique store in Ocean Springs. The owner was a colorful character, extremely nice and full of stories about his wares. Looking through the cases, he had a few nice traditionals, though nothing exceedingly fancy. Most were Imperial or Camillus, a few Case, but almost all were worn down to toothpicks and a tad on the pricier side for what they were (IMO).
I was about to walk out when I saw this little Schrade was tucked away under everything else. Snap was good, (better now that it’s been oiled), and the blades looked untouched! I have inherited a few older Schrade knives that take a great edge, and this one is no exception. I paid 25 out the door, which seemed close to about right with what I saw online. Fit and finish is really nice for something meant to be used!
I’m proud of this little guy, I love the small workhorses!

Nice little serpentine pen at a very reasonable price.
Just think the knife would have cost about $15 20 years ago at Walmart, so that's only a 50c per year increase.

The last retail price was $25.95. If they still made them it would certainly be more now.

I guess they never had these at Walmart then ?
I remember all the OT's were $14.99 at Walmart in '04 or so when I got my 340T.
I don’t know, they probably were. $25.95 was just the last listed retail, they likely weren’t sold for that much in most places.

That's a nice knife and a great find. Don't spoil it by trying to make it shiny. Just give it a good cleaning and oil the joints. It may be a bit small but it'll work hard for you.

Nice find, I always drag my family to antique stores and flea markets where ever we go looking for knives!

Well, after discussing with my better half the merits of me possibly finding another knife I “don’t need”, we ended up stopping by the little shop again. I ended up grabbing this Camillus stockman that I had kind of passed up the other day. The shopkeep remembered us, so I was able to haggle the price down a little bit to where I was more comfortable with it.
I do have to say, I wouldn’t have given it a second thought if not for the replies here leading me to the “Schrade and Camillus” thread full of pictures to enjoy every night!
Unfortunately, I’m a bit too young to have experienced the heyday of Old Timer and Camillus, and some of the remarks in the other thread went against the grain of what I’ve experienced from the new renditions from the companies. I’m used to the big box stores cheap imitations of the old school users. As with the Schrade, I’m blown away by the quality of this stockman.

You were wise to go back and get that one as well. The 67 stockman by camillus is a great pattern with a massive amount of variants, much like the schrade 881/8OT/885. Your 67 has the tang stamp used from 1989 to 2007 when they closed.

Here you can see your knife in the 1990 catalog, notice how the steel is not specified. Later knives used stainless more often but camillus was fairly random on whether they used stainless blades or carbon. Either way you will have quality steel.

Great score, nice example of a stockman.

I have yet to find a stockman that really worked out for me, but I cannot deny the usefulness of the pattern.

I have a few of both Schrade and Camillus and I love how Camillus takes an very fine edge so easily. Nice chunky big knives, enjoy using them.
