Today is the 10th anniversary of my wife and I's first date so we decided to take the day and just go do some things we like to do. So we headed on a road trip to a place that serves the best fried pork chops you could ever hope to eat. After pork chops, eggs, grits and pancakes I would've agreed to about anything she wanted to do so she talked me into going to an antique mall. I don't usually like to go to antique places because my wife needs to look at every single item in the place whereas I tend to just scan for things that interest me. Digging through a box of beat up old pocket knives that said "$10 any knife" I found a nice looking little pearl handled job at the bottom. No cracks or gaps, good snap to the blades. Seems well built and still has a good edge. Immediately decided I had to have it, imagine my surprise when I saw the blade marked "EKA ESKILSTUNA SWEDEN." Don't see too many EKA folders now a days so thought I'd share. Also looking for some general info as my traditional knowledge is sub par to put it mildly.

These pics were taken before I took some soap and water to it.

This was the only problem area on the knife, rust was starting to take up on the springs:

Sodbuster Jr for size comparison:

Now for my questions:

-What do you call this pattern?

-The red mark on the side looks like permanent marker maybe? I took soap and water to it but it resisted my efforts. Lightly took a rust eraser to it but that didn't do it either and I'm afraid to scrub too hard with that and risk damaging the scale. Whatever it is it loks like it's soaked in. Any ideas what I can use on this that won't hurt the knife?

Here's a pic after I cleaned the rust that was forming off of the springs. Used the rust eraser real light to just remove the surface rust and not polish it. Didn't want it to look new.

Overall I think I did very well for $10. I'm not a traditional user for the most part, but I do enjoy owning them from time to time.

Very nice EKA penknife. Not seen anything like this from EKA before. Great find, and it sounds as if you and your wife had a great day :)

MMMMM . . .Fried Pork Chops!!!

:D

nice knife too!!

Nice penknife. You might try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the red mark. I have an Imperial tuxedo penknife in MOTS that got a large blot of ink on the celluloid from a ruptured ballpoint. Nothing else I tried did anything to it, it hadn't even faded after three months. The Magic Eraser took every trace of ink off both covers and backspring without so much as dulling the finish.

Thanks, I'll give that a try for sure!

That's one of the nicest 10 dollar knives I've seen. I had no clue EKA made anything like that, and I own a couple of EKA folders, I think they offer, and have offered superb products.

Ditto. I wonder if it was produced under licence, rather than by EKA themselves??
I'd consider emailing EKA about it, I think they would be happy to let you know more about it.

That's a great idea! I think I'll do that. It'd be interesting to see what they have to tell.

Great score for $10! I'd do that all day...
