Antique Store Score

I figure that anyone out there with the "fever" for traditional pocket knives who's like me also keeps at least a corner-of-the-eye lookout for pocket knife scores in hardware stores, flea markets, antique stores, etc.

My lady wanted to go to a big antique store/market yesterday and I quickly transformed from regular guy to Pocket Knife Hawk Man in no time flat. The place turned out to be a huge maze of small consignment stalls spread over two buildings. Deep, deep in my dig, I came across a small glass counter with about 20 old pieces. Nothing over $28, most about $10-$14. I got to handle a bunch and these were the two that I walked away with:

Both have fantastic pull and snap, no blade rub, no gaps, and seem to have been managed by an owner who knew how to sharpen and keep steel oily. I was particularly glad to find the Case. It's a 1977 6392 with deep dark bone handles. Big time patina and I'm not sure if I should clean up the blades or not. It looks quite old but is snappy and smooth:

Thanks for looking.
Feel free to share any lucky find pictures or tales you have.:thumbup:

Those are sweet. I'd leave them like they are as I don't see any red rust or gouges that would indicate mistreatment. I'd say you did real well; both of those are nice finds. - Ed

Great find, especially for the price. The antique stores around here seem to think old knives are made out of diamond-studded platinum.

Nice finds. Any pictures of the Camillus Scout in the open position? I'm a bit envious, I'm looking for a bone handle scout knife myself.

kamagong, I do have a couple of photos of the Scout open and I will get them on my computer and up soon. However, I want to quell your envy, as the handles are not bone. I also thought they were (in the dark back room), which was largely why I selected it over others. In harsh daylight, the marks around the pins revealed that it is a dense synthetic [with great jigging]. When I get paid next week, I plan on going to go back for a Camillus that was certainly bone handled.

That scout knife would have fooled me too. There are bone Camillus utility knives with USA on the shield, and the bone series is unmistakeable. Nice grabs Jazub.

Wow! Excellent score! The Case is beautiful as-is. Just oil the joints and sharpen the blades and you are done!

Thanks, guys. I will take your advice to oil and leave as is.
Great feel to these oldies.

Peter Parker, that's how I felt. I kept waiting for someone from the forum to materialize and inform the store that I was getting too good a deal :D
