I have a stainless knife ide like to put a carved antler on. I would like to use it fishing from shore. Is there a way to protect the antler carving from the salt air?

Renaissance wax is probably one of the best thing to use on the handle. Antler is porous and it will eventually pick up contaminants from your hands and the environment and develop a patina over time. Which actually may not look bad depending on what your tastes are.

Antler is a natural material it is inherently porous, the more you spray it or soak it in any oil or wax, and the more you handle it or you use it, the more it will patina. Try a light coat of mineral oil after each use, or a little Renaissance wax once in a while for protection. The bottom line is if you use your knife it will patina, the only way to prevent it is to lock it in a safe and never use it.
