I have a very nice bowie that has developed a hairline gap between the soldered guard and the antler. The antler is not loose and there there is no screw on the butt cap to tighten it up. I am concerned that the antler will beging to sllip around after time or blood or water will work its way to the tang and rust it. I have thought about working epoxy into the crack but it may ruin the dark antler. Would soaking in baby oil rehydrate the antler to swell back? Appreciate any feedback. Regards, Loosearrow

give it a try, it wont hurt the antler. you could get some thin superglue and try getting some in between the guard and antler. you could put some clear nail polish on the antler to protect it from the superglue which can be removed with acetone or nail polish remover later. i would try it on the bottom side of the knife where it would be noticed less.
