I'm looking at getting into forging and would like to know what's the minimum size/weight of an anvil should I be looking for. I'll be making knives, tools ect. Thanks

I think 120lb is minimum. Over 200lb would be ideal. That said, my 126lb Trenton is working well for me.

What Marc said. I have the same anvil and think the same. I have a nearly 300lb post anvil that doesn't feel any more efficient than my little Trenton because I haven't leveled it securely yet and it can rock a bit when I'm working it.

Anvil to hammer weight, About 40:1 is absolute minimum for knife & trinket size work. But heavier anvil is always better.

I got a really nice 100lb John Brooks anvil in mint condition. Was thinking of selling it at one point, but I guess it's too small for anyone here. Oh well...

Btw...I was just kidding. She's my baby and I'd never get rid of her. 100lbs of pure love and steel. Just the perfect size for the knives I bang out.
