I recently Bought an anvil, it weighs 160 or 155lbs(bathroom scale), I have pictures of the only markings I can make out. I think its a cast steel anvil as far as I can tell, There are a few spots that only rebound 50%, but generaly does about 70% I Paid $100 for it... I think it was worth it for me as a starter anvil.

I know Peter Wright used the "WARRANTED" mark on early anvils which indicated a wrought iron base. However, this was used on a number of anvils. It's shaped kinda like a Mousehole anvil or something very similar....

There are probably other ID marks, such as weight in stones, which will also indicate where it came from and roughly the time period. You probably cannot see other marks; but they are still there.

Take some paper and a pencil and do a rubbing on all 4 sides of the base, and watch how magically other ID marks appear.

I did this to ID my Peter Wright.
