There's always a lot of religious debate over the usefulness of a rebound test on anvils. I had the opportunity to examine an anvil for a friend and had some interesting results. I only had a small hammer instead of a bearing, but the data was the same. True to my personal theory, it revealed a (probably poorly repaired) crack in the anvil that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. Interestingly, the tongue had decent rebound despite being on the other side of the crack. The percentage of rebound is irrelevant.
