Hi, I’m really new to blade smithing and still in the process of creating my forge. My question specifically is, what are some affordable options for an anvil stand and how can I dampen the ring of the anvil?

Here is an anvil stand I made from some scrap tubing and plywood. I filled the tubing with sand. I don't use it very often, but I've been pretty happy with the anvil and the stand.

The simplest solid anvil base is made from 2X12 lumber. Use a construction adhesive like Gorilla or Liquid Nails and 3" construction screws.
To make a 11.5X15" base. cut twelve boards 3" shorter than the desired base height. Screw and glue ten of them together. Try and keep the bottom as even as possible. Place one board on the bottom and screw and glue it as a base foot. Place one on the top and do the same. Cut slots and notches in the extended parts of the top piece to hang hammers and tongs. The anvil can be attached to the top if desired. using 1/2" lag screws and large washers. This base will add more mass to the anvil.

You can do a similar base by cross stacking 2X4 or 2X6 pieces. Screw and glue as you build up the base. This method allows the base to be wider at the bottom than at the top. To do that, use boards that are about 1" shorter each tier. Put two longer 2X4s in the center of the layer just below the top. Space them about 1.5" apart. This makes handles to carry the unit as well as a hammer rack.

I'll try and draw up plans and take some photos this week.

I did what H Hubert S. did, just welded it up to a 1/4" plate. You can dampen anvil ring by gluing your anvil to the stand with RTV or some other silicone adhesive.

Cheap HF welding magnets placed on the anvil sides do a good job of dampening the ring They also catch a bit of the scale that comes off in forging.
