Just aquired a anvil from a scrape heap while on a bear hunting trip in Northern Manitoba.
It has Canadian Blower & Forge Co 0668 cast into one side. Pings good and rebounds good but has some dings and is slightly dished. Can the surface be trued with a hand belt sander? Does anyone know anything about these anvils?

You can clean up the face with a belt sander. I wouldn't worry about the dish too much, it can be used to straighten that blade you are working on.

If God did not intend for us to eat animals. Why did he make them out of meat?

Hello,

I have a nice (mysterious) anvil, whick I straightend with my angle grinder. I bought me a bucket shape stone, specially for Hardened steel. Works fine. Faster then a belt grinder, and cheaper, but you must finish it with a belt grinder. You can even polish it.
P.S. I don't know the exact translation of the tool I called angle grinder. It's a heavy thing, on which you can mount a disk of about
25 cm diameter, and can cut anything, when it rotates at 5000 t/min.

greetings, Bart.

Bart, angle grinder, side grinder, or 9" grinder will work thats what we calll them also. I used an angle grinder to clean mine up also.

Why am I good enough to fix my mistakes, but not good enough to keep from making them in the first place?

Thanks for the cleanup ideas guys. I have already taken the edge dings out with an angle grinder and was about to start on the face. I think I will follow mikeS idea and leave some of the dish in the face for blade straightening.
Still wondering about the origin of this anvil. The place I got it from was halfway to hell and a long way from nowhere.
