I just cant seem to shake this sickness. Every time I see an anvil in the local trade paper I have to run out and get it.

Just scored a nice 142 lb mousehole on my lunch break . $115 :D

I need to take a pic and show you the little 100 or so pound Confederate anvil I picked up for 50 bucks. Not too bad.

Too many anvils..whats that!

Excellent score, Mark! What I need is an old anvil I can leave outside (under cover of course). I'm still looking! Might have to break down and get me one of those Czech anvils. Hey, if I had a job it would be even better! Maybe I could afford one then.

Geebus... I'm depressing myself now...

back to the shop!

:D

Oh anyhow... great score and have fun gloating you sombitch! haha! :footinmou

Wait a minute.

the thing is marked 1-1-22

Am I correct in my measure/

is the second digit 20 lbs or 50?

Higgy, get busy on that power bush :D It will make you rich

If I understand hundred weights right the first digit is the number of hundred weights or 112 pounds, the second is quarter hundred weights or 28 pounds and the third is pounds. So I make 1-1-22 to be 162 pounds.

I see you like to handle the anvil but don't put the blade on the hammer and hit it with the anvil.....It goes the other way around. Think of the shoulder.

Nice sickness. Probably got a touch of it myself.

Every time I get the itch I remind myself that it would just sit on the shop floor with most of the rest of the collection.

I've managed to only buy to anvils this year by doing this.

The two I did buy?

Well, one I just had to have, it's a 182 pound chainmakers anvil. I figured I might not see another one I can afford for 20 years

The other I couldn't afford NOT to buy, it's a 400 pound hay budden, but I still need to go pick it up. I think I'll wait till I have a new shop for that.

Just keep telling yourself: "I don't really need this anvil"

But then be prepared for reality to set in, and some deals are just too good to pass up.

Hope that helps :)

Mark, I'm starting a home for wayward anvils. Just bring it to Blade and I'll make sure it has a comfortable life and gets the attention it needs.

A chain makers anvil wouldn't by any chance have a conical horn with a small flat area running on top does it?

I wasnt sure if this anvil was modified or it came that way. Here's a pic with my mascot :)

This seems to be a catchy disease. Just two weeks ago, I had no anvils, now I have three and I don't even have a forge! (but I do have a couple of fire bricks). I think I'm getting betther though as one anvil is supposed to go away this evening.

Mark, looks like you've got a modified anvil, don't know for sure though.

This is a chainmakers anvil:

A chainmakers anvil has a square hole going through the body to work with swages :) not too many around anymore, and this particular pattern are even rarer, most don't have the table beneth the far side like this one. Like I said, I just had to have it :)
