What can i use for a makeshift anvil I have a piece of railroad but its not very flat on top and my angle grinder doesnt want to do the job maybe im using the wrong disc. Any suggestions?

I took the housing from a drum brake (an old Cherokee) then Arc welded a 1" steel plate to the top of that, then with a huge post hole sledge rammed/pounded the assembly onto the top of an old Elm log I made from a tree stump of the proper diameter. It gives me a nice flat movable worktable, and being pyramid shaped (wider at the bottom, with the top trimmed down to tightly fit the brake housing) is fairly stable. I was initially worried about the noise, but the wood deadens the noise so it is quieter to work on than the 1.5 foot railroad stock. I keep it in the garage, then lug it outside when I want to beat something.
