C.S. Graves asked on another thread...
Can we assume by your increased frequency of posts that your arms are feeling better?

And this was my reply...

Thanks, but not really C.S. Right now I am in one helluva shape and if I fall and manage to get all the way to the floor I'm pretty much toast unless there is someone around to help me get up.:o  :(
Actually I was getting ready to start a new thread as soon as I finished reading the forum.

And that's the situation I am in right now. My physical therapist, Melanie, retested my leg strength and flexion this morning and I am much improved from 30 days of intensive rehab but still have a long way to go.
Right now I am as far as I can go with land exercises, except to continue with what I am doing and increasing the amount of repetition so as to keep building what strength and as well as increasing my flexion and endurance as best I can.
I start back in the therapy pool next week with assisted supervision to see if I can even handle the exertion. In the pool is not a problem, it's the results of the exertion on my body when I get out.
When first entering the 4'3" deep pool that's heated to more than usual it's the same as losing 75% of your body weight, which feels really good of course and you don't realize the amount of exertion you're putting on your body until you get out.
And then it feels like you weigh 5 times your body weight and it's simply hard to move, let alone walk! :o
If I can handle the water therapy then we can address the stamina problem I have with my legs that we can't do on land now because of my arms.

My *Anxiety* is about tomorrow when we go early in the morning to see my neurologist to hopefully find out what exactly is wrong with my upper appendages and I am indeed very anxious about his findings and hopefully we will walk out knowing just what *IS* wrong.
My biggest fear right now is that it won't be fixable back to the way I have always been up until this happened. And it scares the crap outta me that it won't be and I will be permanently dependent on someone to do the simple things I used to do for myself!!!!:( :grumpy:
I am hoping it is just a simple case of carpal tunnel syndrome and that it can be fixed with a few steroid injections instead of surgery but if surgery is what it takes and it isn't permanent I will be very happy, very happy indeed!  :D

Good luck Yvsa. Here's hopin you get a definite diagnosis and they can do something about it. I hate it when cool people have to deal with this sort of health problem. Ya don't deserve it!

Prayers sent from SC. Hope you get the best possible news tomorrow. Take care.

Eric

Yvsa, I've gone through some serious problems similar to yours, though caused by something altogether different that I had long ago. You mentioned carpal tunnel syndrome and I'd like to offer you a tip regarding that. I have a good neurologist here who examined me about 13 years ago. He prescribed (not suggested, but prescribed) vitamin B-6 to help relieve the pain and improve the function of the carpal tunnel syndrome that was affecting my right hand, wrist, and lower arm. He said that normal over the counter B-6 works fine and it's cheap and easily available. It comes in 50 mg and 100 mg dosages, and my neurologist told me that 200 mg a day is the maximum safe dosage. (Do not exceed 200 mg a day!) He recommended that I take 200 mg a day for one week, then cut back to 100 mg or even 50 mg a day for as long as I wanted to take it. I have found over the years that B-6 really helps to relieve joint pain of all kinds for me. I take it for awhile, then quit for awhile. Every time I've been off of it for some weeks or months my joints begin to hurt again, so I start back on the B-6 and I feel better in a week. Ask your doctor about taking B-6, but this seems safe as long as you don't take over 200 mg a day. B-6 is supposed to have other benefits, too, but you can read more about it yourself if you are interested. Good luck to you.

Will go light one for you, Yvsa. :)

It won't be needed, but there are now inexpensive voice-typing programs, a doctor friend uses one- he speaks into a lil' microphone and it types his notes. He loves it.

Thanks Dr. Mudd, et al!
For the info and all the Smoke and Prayers!!!! They are all very much appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble. I hope and pray all goes really well and that you enjoy unexpected peace throughout.

Yvsa, as long as I see the word "improved" in your posts, I worry less. Nobody said it was going to be easy, as Bill said on occassion.

Anything we can do to help? Send cedar tips, for instance? Say the word.
