I don't own a 501 but have looked many times at the custom shop ones. Are there any 501 fans on here? What do you have? I do own a 522 that I believe is very close in size to the 501. I wish I remember who it was on here that gave it to me. I think maybe Packrat but not sure as it was a few years back. Its been a handy knife.

I know I said I was thinking of starting collecting the AG next but I'm thinking a custom shop s30v and elk would be a super sweet carry knife. I might have to start saving my pennies now.

Between the 501, 500 and 112 I have a hard time making up my mind which is my favorite. They're enough different to enjoy the merits of each! I think my favorite is the one in the pocket and or sheath at the time. This I do know for light carry especially if it is to ride in the watch pocket that would go to the 501 easily! Here's my little pal!

The 501 was my favorite pocket knife. I had a stag model with silver bolsters from years back. It was pilfered at a gym, unfortunately. The 501 is a great knife.

I like them just fine. I ordered these from the Custom Shop last year. The walnut was a Fathers Day gift for my dad and the oak was for myself. Very hand and with S30v a great little blade.

Very nice. It just seems to me you don't hear much about these.

I like the 501. Easy to carry in the pocket, big enough to field dress a dear, small enough to use at work or in public. Solid lock, good looks and a useful blade shape. I need to get another one. I carry a 503 from time to time. Big fan of it as well.

I like the 501 a lot :)
My first one I carried for many years until it fell out of my pocket riding a motorcycle on the freeway in San Diego.
I have 3 now, and they get pocketed sometimes :)

I like the 501's nice little knife.

Here are a few fancy ones that Buck has issued over the years

That stag with the feather in it and turquois inset is about the prettiest thing I have seen! Just Stunning!

I think the 501 is the perfect size for carry. Here's mine that I rescaled in ebony.

I love the 501, it is the perfect size for EDC- thin and compact, yet you get a full handle and good sized blade. I put a kwik thumb stud on it... makes it a little less attractive to look at, but more attractive to me as that makes it just as functional as my other daily carry knives. The only thing I don't like is the weight, depending on the pants im wearing. I don't like belt pouches/clips, so I carry vertically in the right front pocket with my small wallet, and if my pockets are too big theres a really good chance it will end up horizontal due to the weight. Then it imprints, and makes me paranoid that one of the hoplophobes in my office will notice it and question me. So its perfect for pants with smaller pockets as it will be held where you want it by friction without imprinting.

You all have convinced/infected me; I have what is suppose to be a micarta handled 501 coming. This will give me an opportunity to try it out prior to ordering one from the Custom shop.

Stelth, thanks for that picture. It confirms what I thought but wasn't absolute on.

Here are a few 501's that I have been known to carry at times.

The 501 was my first 500 series knife, I used it as a dress knife on special occasions. I need to find that one again and try to post some pictures of it on the GSOE. HL
