I found this knife in my grand parents house a while ago. The story behind this is that my uncle was given this knife by some people he knew in the Air force who he had befriended while working in DC. It looks a lot like knives made by Camillus for the Air force during that time but this one is made by Ontario. Did Ontario have a contract with the government to produce knives for them or is this for the civilian market? Also the leather sheath looks a bit rough is there any steps I can do to protect it from further aging?

It didnt? It shows up for me thats odd. It does look like that except it has a blued finish on the knife and the sheath is more of a dark auburn color and the steel tip on the bottom of the sheath and the rivets are unpainted and the pommel is stamped "02-80 Ontario"

Sounds like an "Aircrew Survival Egress Knife" they were made for decades and you will see variations in the finish and the sheath colour.
