Any advice for a Canadian Knife sharpener who wants to start earning some money?

I have been using the Wicked edge system for around 4 months now and I can achieve a mirrored edge perfectly. I want to start taking orders from fellow Canadians. I noticed that most of the wicked edge sharpeners are based in the USA, and for Canadians wanting a mirrored edge, the currency conversion rate and shipping prices get in the way.

Does anyone have any advice for me? I am thinking of getting an upgraded account on blade forums and starting a website. Where should I advertise?

Thank You in advance - SMC Knives

The price of shipping in Canada is horrible. I have sent knives to be sharpened and you are looking at 30 bucks round trip.

How long have you sharpened knives?

Sharpening your knives is easy, sharpening other peoples knives is difficult. Customer's knives will be beyond dull, chipped, broken/rounded tips and much more. It will be your responsibility to fix these problems and to make the edge sharp again in the least amount of time possible.

As bellablades suggested, lots of photos. Everyone loves edge porn :)

What stones does the Wicked Edge system come with? As you'll need to learn how to level them. Customers knives will come to you brutalized and correcting this will eat away at a SiC stone. And what do you use to clean your stones? Plus, they'll expect you to do it for the 'basic' price. Some meat cutters and kitchen knife folks understand the need for tuning their knife early on. Others just maul it until it can't be used before handing it over to you for fixing. Now, lots of metal must be removed before an edge can be established. DM

i understand the shipping is horrible from US to Canada. I plan to advertise to fellow Canadian. My turn around time will be 2 days. Prices will be dirt low. and I will post many pictures of my perfect edges. I am just not sure how big the Canadian market is. It is mostly US knife knuts that want a costume mirror polish. i assume.

Where in Canada are you? You should update your profile with your location, that's the first step! I could be a potential customer in the lower mainland Vancouver..I honestly feel like being an active member on boards like this are really great marketing tools. Anyone that would want to use your services would probably be a member, or at least lurking.

Shipping within Canada is a horrible price. It is 30 bucks within Canada roundtrip. That puts a lot of services in the realm of unrealistic.
