I've been concentrating on my Maruzen Walther P99. I got the limited edition with the silencer and metal outer barrel. I upgraded the inner barrel to the better accuracy one and got the metal recoil spring guide. I will soon be getting the hicap mag, hi-flow valves, piston upgrades, metal slide with Walther logo, and the tactical scope mount (basically every P99 upgrade or accessory available!). I'm really looking forward to the Marui HK G36C, which is supposed to come out next Spring. I almost got the Marui Benelli M3 Shorty but it looks like the G36C will be my first long arm. Anybody else own or play airsoft?

Hi, I have an MP5 (A5 converted to A4) AEG at home in Hong Kong, and a few springers for plinking in my room. The MP5 is stock spring and gears, but I've opened it up and jammed little lead weights everywhere I can, to increase the weight. So even with the plastic body, it's nearly as heavy as an empty real steel. I can't justify buying a metal body for a gun I fondle twice a year (when I go home for vacation).

I've got plans for a dual (switched) battery system for it, so that I can have both a large battery in the fixed stock and a small battery up front. When my large battery runs out (and everyone thinks I'm dead meat), I can switch to my small battery at the flick of a switch. :) MOW 'EM ALL DOWN! Hehheehehe. Hehehehe. Kakaka. (mental voice: "calm down, we can't let them know you're crazy yet").

I haven't gotten my drivers license yet, but when I do, I might just get an AEG over here and join the VA Rangers for their skirmishes.

I bought a cheap 20 dollar airsoft gun that crossman was selling at walmart. Its a beretta 9 mm springer. It was really fun but its since broken. What would you say is a good starting springer if I were going to buy one. Also what are some good import stores that I can trust?

I can't tell you how dangerous this new Phenomonom could be, and I don't mean "You'll shoot your eye out!"

These resemble 'real' firearms too much! Many Police Officers across the United States have already been on calls of 'Man with a gun' or a group chasing another around an apartment complex' to only find out it's these toys. Many times the kids don't really know how close to death they have come with those officers that have arrived to stop the 'man with the gun' from harming people.

Many of the 'Gang Bangers' have picked up on the 'toy' concept and have taped or painted their real guns to resemble toys. I suppose to fool or cause hesitation to give them the upper hand. On that same note there are many Officers that will now no longer assume that because you have a red tipped gun it is a 'toy'

You may be criminally charged with "Induciing Painic" or similar statute in your state.

Please don't take these in public and don't do anything that will get you killed.

I know these things, as I have 'at gun point' disarmed a kid with a toy and now have 3 of these things from 2 incidents in my town for my departments training unit.

With that said have fun, but please be safe.

The possibility of getting shot is really what stopped me from bringing my airsoft over here to the US. It would be terrible to have the neightbours call the police just because they saw the MP5 in my room through the window.

Responsible airsofters should really play on (their own) private property in a rural area or not at all.

The Key word here really is 'responsibility'.

Using common sence and being responsible in the use of your toys and you can avoid such occurences, unfortunatley children by their nature don't think of such things and as such its usually them which are involved in the situations as described above.

Here in the United Kingdom (and i'm guessing in the US as well) airsoft owners / player's are highly reccomened to use their 'toys' only on offical skirmish sites and in doing so avoid such problems. These sites (more often than not also running as Paintball ) offer a safe environment for the players that is out of sight of the local populus and as such avoids said incidents. As a precaution the local police are always informed of the site's purpose / presents and therefore when for example '20 armed men' are seen drilling in the local woodland, the Police already know that they are more than likley to be nothing but airsofters and as such avoids wasting Police time and endangering the public.

Unfortunatley (As mentioned) its usually the thoughtless individuals that jepordise the sport, and more often than not this tends to be in the form of young kids with their £7 springer shootingat there mates.

I don't think people should be discouraged from partaking in airsoft skirmishing but instead should be made fully aware of correct practise and the very serious consequences should they not adear to them.

Back to the original question :D

Been playing airsoft in one form or another since i was 12 (now 21) have dropped out of it a few times (due to work, college and various other reasons) but always returned after a short time.

Been skirmising on regulated sites every two weeks or so for the past 2 1/2 years and throughly enjoy it :D

Presently i own (but have owned various other things):

TM M4-A1 Carbine (upgraded with spring, bushings)
TM P90 (upgraded with Full tuneup kit)
Maruzen APS 2-Sniper version (upgraded with pretty much everything :D)
WA SVI 5" Black
WA SVI 3.9" Black
WA Wilson Highcap Black
Tanaka Glock 17, Fixed slide

As you can probably guess from my above statement i'm rather into airsoft. I heartly enjoy it and encourage anyone to try it.

For me (behind a computer most of the day) its a great way to get out doors and let off a bit of the steam that gets build up during the day :)

Just be sensible, use a bit of nouce and you'll be fine

I think I am going to get a:

UHC Heavyweight 92fs Model spring pistol

from airsoftatlanta.com It is only like 25 bucks. Seems reasonably priced. Anyone know anything about this particular gun? They claim it is their number 1 seller and its the gun they recommend to people who want a spring gun.

here is a pick from their page, or go to airsoftatlanta.com for more pics and info.

Spring guns are fun to plink with at home, but soon you'll want something that's at least semi-auto.

I'd recommend Marui springers, since they look great and have acceptable barrels and springs. Some of the Taiwanese guns have a lower level of quality when it comes to looks, so you might want to take that into consideration. I don't know how expensive a Marui would be in the US though. In HK they cost less than US$20 each.

I'm not ever going to go play in the field or anything. My friends and I just have wars in my basement :) Anything more than a springer would be a bit unfair.

Also all I'm really worried about is how long the gun will last. It could be neon blue with golden glitter embedded in it and I wouldn't care so long as it won't break after a few thousand rounds. I don't mind unrealistic looking guns at all.

Most springers break pretty easily... I've never made it through a box of 1000 without complications arising. Even the higher quality ones are still operating under the same basic principles and at risk (trigger sears and slides break the most often in my experience). A cheap gas (solid state/non-blowback) repeater is worth it if you're serious, IMO. A Colt 25 is only about $35 is semi-automatic and much more durable IMO.

If you're just having fun in your basement, there are some fun double-action sping guns that are semi-automatic and high capacity. Basically, perfect for close range fun. They're super cheap, like $5 for small ones and $7 for full-sized ones. They're usually yellow or clear plastic, but I don't know where you'd get 'em nowadays (I bought mine at a convenience store). They jam a lot, which is actually kinda fun... and are pretty durable (replace the cocking/firing spring and magazine spring and it's good as new).

Hope this info helps.

Ive got an MP5A4, PSG-1, and an HK USP. All good fun. Lots of people are scared of these things, as they look very real. Its your job to not be dumb with em. Great training tools too for close range disarmament and retention. You really know if you got shot. Goggles needed. NW

You're right about that. Some of my earlier Marui springers broke after a few thousand rounds. The plastic just couldn't hold up to the repeated cycling. (This happened to the SIG P228 and the even earlier Colt .45 with stick magazine)

In my experience, cheap handguns, whether blowback/non-blowback/springer, tend to fail after a few months. Don't buy the cheapest if you need it to last.

I don't really want to have to keep buying gas though. We just like to fire off a few rounds at each other every now and then. Say something stupid? POW! Fart during the movie? POW!!

Heh. I would mind paying more money, its just that I don't like the idea of having to purchase gas. Are there any High-End spring pistols that cost more (like ~100) that wouldn't break? Or is it just a function of the design that they eventually die?

My walmart gun worked fine for about a month then the hammer started catching when you would pull the trigger, you would have to push the hammer down all the way with your thumb to get it to fire. I took it apart in an attempt to fix it but the thing is designed so the firing mechanism is encased in a block of metal so that you can't tamper with it.

Buying gas is not a pain... you can use PC dusters to drive gas guns (and give your PC a good dusting to boot). I'd still recommend this route. If you shoot it as infrequently as you claim, this is the most cost effective, painless, and durable route IMO. You could stick towards buying springer and dole out $20 every month or two. I don't know of any high end spring pistols... you'd be better off trying to find something not airsoft related since airsoft guns are nearly always made out of ABS plastic.

If you're really serious, you can buy the brocock air cartridge system
http://www.brocock.co.uk/bacs.htm along with a pnuematic pump. Then fire felt cleaning pellets instead of lead. But frankly, that's borderline psychotic. Alternatively, look at this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1783471151 but they're kind of weak... not really much of a punishment.

I still think gas is the best route.

First thing, I really question the wisdom of shooting your friends in such close proximity with a springer. It'll put out an eye, easy, with bullet velocities approaching those of AEG's.

Now for the horror stories. My friend once shot me, point blank with a gas gun, in the leg while I was just standing around minding my own business. He "thought the gas was all used up". Yup, buddy, tell that to that little blood-filled wound. Second story, I once narrowly missed shooting out the eye of my 6 year-old brother. We had been "messing around" with empty guns, but I had unconsciously loaded my MP5's magazine. I fired a spray of automatic fire on a spinny office chair, and there was a permanent two-metre line of bullet marks in the wall, along with a permanent mark on my brother's face around the cheekbone area. I was one inch away from blinding him in one eye, just because I was messing around with guns. To this day it kills me to see him with that mark, though it's not very noticeable.

Now, if you're still planning on shooting your friends with airsoft guns, I'd recommend one of the electric mini automatics. They're funny looking, sure, but I think you mentioned that you wouldn't mind. They have auto fire capabilities, definitely fun in close-quarter messing around. But above all, they are the weakest airsoft guns that I've encountered, making them somewhat more safe for the kind of stuff you have in mind. I've shot myself at point blank range in the arm and got a little subcutaneous bleeding, which went away in 3-4 days.

I've tweaked my MP5 mini to take 6 rechargable batteries (you have to open up the case and tweak the internals a bit), which makes it fire as fast as a mofo. Now I can I just plug the entire gun into a charger to charge it up. A good project for a rainy weekend.

First things, first. Sounds stupid but you'd be suprised the number of people who dont do it.

Even when shooting at can and such with a cheap-ass springer you should still wear a pair of saftey glasses and ESPECIALLYif you're skirmishing with them. Thing with bb's as appose to lead pellet air weapons is that the bbs don't compact as lead does and therefore tend to ricochet an awful lot more, so even shooting at a cardboard box can quite easyily damage your eye. Heck I wouldn't even consider shooting at people without at least a pair of good quality shades on.

As for highend spring pistols, well yeah you can get them (well i belive their is about 1 of them) but its not perticularly suitable for what you want, given its highpower and very high price tag.

What i'd suggest if you want something for plinking and generally capping each other while watching tele, is an EBB - Electric Blow back pistol. Put simply these are rather like the Mini-Electrics suggested above but instead are a 1-1 replica of a pistol (rather than a scaled down assualt rifle the size of a pistol) who's topslide racks after every shot. In my mind these are ideal for what you want as they are quite realiable, fairly accurate indoors, not too powerful as to take chunks out of your walls and best of all they're semi-automatic so you can rattle off a good few shots into your mate while he runs for cover :D

They run off 4 AAA batterys if my memory serves, so you don't have any kind of outlay if you pair the gun with a few sets of batterys and a charger.

I'm not sure how the voltage would look for 4 rechargable cells in one of the electric guns (EBB or mini auto). It'd be alright for a while, how long, I don't know. That's the reason I upgraded to 6 rechargable cells instead of 4 alkaline, to maintain and even increase the voltage available to the motor.

But anyway, I've heard that the 4 rechargables will work, though you might be underwhelmed by the blowback speed and the number of shots you can fire before it goes dead. At such low voltages it will shoot slower than you can pull the trigger, so there will be a delay between each shot.

Once the EBB USP comes out, I am going to rig a fake laser module with two AAA rechargables inside of it, and connect it to the 4 main batteries already in the handle. I love messing around with the wiring of the guns.

This is the cheap springer I was talking about... the person who took that picture bought it for $2.39 and although it lacks punch, you can make up for it by pelting an offender with up to 50 low-powered shots at a time.
