Any Amateur Radio Operators amongst us?

Yes , come on back. It's changed a bit in 30 years ,computers and satellites but it's whatever you want to make of it .I've only been involved for 5 years but it's been fun.

I didn't mean to post this thread here. I ment to do it on the rag chewing part of this forum. No wonder I couldn't find it there. Maybe Kit will move it over to "around grinder" where I ment it to be. There goes any points I may have salvaged.

I can't believe they dropped the CW requirement down to 5 WPM. That's terrible. I've looked the exam questions over and it looks like they took most of the theory out too. Just got me a SB-301. It got here yesterday. After some repairs and hooking up a new WA2NAN 80 - 6 dipole I'm listening to CW. The bands seem awful dead. Not like I remember it. I should get my Vibroplex Original soon too. Never had a Vibroplex before. I was always too poor for one. According to the exam schedules in my area it looks like I might be able to take the tests in about a month to six weeks. I'm going for the Extra class.

Yes they've dumbed down the the requirements just like everything else. It's a bit slow now because we're at the bottom of the cycle.Yes get the extra but you'll have to learn what a transister is !!! AC2RC

at least the transistor is sealed :) Pun funny

I was too poor to have one of those, did have a CB though :) :(

Hey all, took my exams Saturday a week and got my call last Thursday - KD8BZY. I crash studied the Technician and General class question pool the Saturday morning of the exams. Took six hours or better to read all the possible questions. No sleep but at least the possible questions were fresh on my mind. Ran out of time to study anything for the Extra class but took that exam as well. Failed the Extra class but no problem on the code, Techie and General. Hope to take the Extra exam mid next month (September). I just gotta have those lower 25 KHz for all that juicy DX. Not being able to wonder into the lower 25 makes me feel like a Novice again. Gotta get that Extra.

73 and best DX to all
CW rules. dah-di-dah-dit di-dah-di-dit

Dang Roger, how do you have time for a hobby...! :D If I were the gregarious sort, this would be a gas. But I avoid talking to people at almost any cost, so it's not a natural for me. Y'all have fun, and let us know who the most distant person you talk to is. Maybe you'll find a smith in Antarctica!

Hobbies are for those with time but for some a relief valve. I don't drink anymore. Remember.

Very good Roger !! BTW technology is moving very quickly, they have now found a way to make a transistor with carbon nanotubes !

The holes are there, then gone, then there again...pesky electrons...
How come Amateur Radio Operators usually know more than Professional Radio Operators? Wait a minute... Is there such a thing as a Professional Radio Operator?
